  1. Also, the carts for these have different screw patterns on the back. I had the images long ago, but can't seem to find them. I think one had 3 and one had 4. Don't ask me which is which though.

I am only posting this because I know you are on the hunt for a PRG0.

I also read but can't confirm that the label for the Bentley version contains a -1 somewhere, indicating a revision?

  2. What Goodtools version of the (NES) Tecmo Bowl ROM is used for those hacked ROMs in the download section? Is it...

    Tecmo Bowl (U) (PRG0) [!]

    or

    Tecmo Bowl (U) (PRG1) [!]

Also, do you know what the difference is between the two?

I'm with Knobbe - these different roms are the w/Dickerson and wo/Dickerson variants. I'm not sure which TT used for the rom though.

  3. Was there ever an early GAMEBOY version of the first TECMOBOWL with DICKERSON in it??? I seem to remember my friend had it in summer camp, but that was a long time ago.................that would be a rare find!!!

Game Boy version came out in October, 1991 - two months before Tecmo Super Bowl for the NES. It's a direct port of the NES game with Bentley on the Colts.

  4. He was only half in Tecmo Bowl. Depending on when you bought your cart, he was replaced by Albert Bently in TB because of the same contract reasons that kept him out of Tecmo Super Bowl.

I'm 0-3 in Tecmo Bowl carts having Dickerson! I'm cursed to play as Albert Bentley forever.

  5. The rankings Matt linked to are old, but Seattle sits at 7th right now. Fredd Young dominates on defense, but their abysmal kicking game...especially piss poor punter really sinks them. The offense overall is ok, but really doesn't dominate in either the pass or the run.

The good news for Seattle is that in most games they put together a drive where they look unstoppable but overall their play book is so-so and they can be defended quite well on 3rd and long with a trifecta call.

Largent is easy to eliminate by calling pass 1, which creates computer controlled coverage on pass 2 and the top DB covers Largent all day. The only targets open are very close to each other. Curt Warner is a pretty average RB as far as Tecmo Bowl is concerned, so you can key on the pass a bit more than against other teams.

The lesson, as always, is that no one knows their stuff like Tecmo-Mad-Brad when it comes to the orig Tecmo Bowl. Site is awesome.

  6. For the tournament setup, it was the same default (depending on # of teams) but the player could customize. I'm guessing there's some built-in logic in the rom that we need to sift through?

For the season schedules, if possible, I would leave the logic as-is. It was pretty random IIRC.

Re: the 32 - this makes sense for tournament (and season) eligibility. Maybe in future versions we make all-time college teams (or just select years) with these slots?

  7. I have a version of the 2010 rom that has almost all of the logos Canes worked on. There are maybe a handful that need adjusting but it's really close. Some great work put into it. Can we use them from the rom or do we need the art from Canes?

Most of the big teams left out of the original game (Georgetown, North Carolina, Marquette, Texas, Baylor, etc) are done here.

Here's the list from the rom (by rank)

    * = new team to game

    Kansas -

    Kentucky -

    Duke - new logo

    Syracuse -

    Kansas St - new logo*

    Villanova -

    W. Virginia - new logo*

    Ohio St - new logo*

    Georgetown - new logo*

    New Mexico - new logo*

    Baylor - new logo*

    Pittsburgh - new logo*

    Vandy - new logo*

    Purdue - new logo

    Wisconsin

    Maryland

    Michigan St

    Temple - new logo

    Texas A&M - new logo*

    Butler - new logo*

    Xavier - new logo*

    Marquette - new logo*

    Tennesse - new logo*

Richmond - incomplete (shows st. mary logo)*

    BYU - incomplete (shows gonzaga)*

California - incomplete (shows WV logo)

    Gonzaga - new logo*

    Texas - new logo*

    Northern Iowa - new logo*

    Washington - new logo*

    Cornell - new logo*

    North Carolina - new logo*

    Miami - new logo*

So that's the 40 teams, not sure how the extra teams (32-40 here, looks like some previous teams were shuffled to these spots?) can be incorporated into the tournament, etc.

At least a discussion point for which teams to keep and get rid of.
