  1. yeah the DS is a different beast, with familiar insides. Once you actually get inside, from what ive read a lot of it will look familiar to you. But there will be more than what you are used to with NES and SNES, even Genesis. heres the link to a basic tutorial, it even has a video to show you how to graphic hack the Nintendo start up screen. http://gbatemp.net/t...m-hacking-guide Also here is the music ripped from the game. http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/369635/TB_KICKOFF_CTBE.zip
  2. so i think i had it all wrong... There is enough time to punt if you are a player... the computer likes to wait til the second time the line fills... dont know why... also i think two players playing against each other or a season this would be much more competitive. In preseason mode vs. computer i am constantly thrashing the opposing team. I think all i really have to do is take down the DL and LB speed ratings a bit, that should give opponents enough time to throw or punt or whatever. Further testing will ensue.
  3. *Update* The defensive ratings came out... i was curious to see how the whole thing would play once teams were together, so i went ahead and completed the Colts and Texans ratings. Theres some good news and some bad. The good news is that it plays fast and it plays fun. RB's cant break off huge runs, QB's will have a hard time running as LB's are tough SOB's and CB's are fast. You can still pick up good chunks of yardage on offense.(I played in preseason mode, so there was no juicing) The bad news is that offensive lines were dominated by their defensive counterparts. CB's and LB's blitzing went over well, but when it came down to it, i could select a DE and blitz easily through their line every play. Also EVERY punt was either stopped or blocked. So my immediate attempt at a solution will be to pump up every OL 5 points in every category. If this doesnt work i will have to pull down ALL defensive players stats. Nothing major, maybe 3 points in every category. That would give the OL an 8 point handicap. If nothing else ill decrease just the Hitting Power and Rushing Power on the defensive players in order to keep their speed in tact. Hopefully i wont have to take it too far.
  4. yeah i figured this was the case. I opened the file up and looked around it with Crystal Tile 2. Its kind of an all in one program. You can explore the ROM and extract almost anything to edit it. I had all the music out for instance. I could listen to it, but i didnt know how to edit it and sub it back in. It has a Tile editing view and a hex coding view... there is a lot to that program. Tinke and Nitro Explorer do some of the same things... opening the rom, exploring it, extracting from it and re inserting the extracted piece. Like i said before, the .PDF has a ton of information on general hacking and DS hacking. I would probably at least skim that first with the ROM open in crystal tile 2 and see where that gets you.
  5. TB was the first team i ever won the SB with.... It was a pain, but i actually went undefeated in that season.
  6. Mini update: Finished all AFC RB's (except for the few whos roster spots might not be there) defensive stats come out in 2 days, then i will be able to put full offenses up against the D to see how it balances out. ill be trying some of the best defenses vs worst offenses and vice versa. ill be running a lot of balance tests in COA mode.

  8. Please do let me know, i would love to have my .sav apply to an updated ROM with all the fixins... then this game would really shine. check out the first post, i added one more optional (should be easy) edit. yeah the .sav file is coming along nicely, i have been updating my progress in my thread. Ive formulated the RB's and hopefully i can skip the receivers and move on to defense to see how an upgraded D will affect the QB's and RB's boosted stats. I know the Madden ratings for D come out soon. BTW Knobbe took out all the files i uploaded (sorry again) but i will re-upload them in a link in case anyone else has interest in messing with the ROM.
  9. I dont know much about hacking at all... Im just now trying to learn and this is definitely beyond me. So with the header stuff, i really dont have any idea. I do know which tools people use to hack DS roms and i have opened those tools and attempted to mess around in there, but taking out the language filter was the only thing i could do successfully because it was a simple .txt file. Ill upload the tools i have collected hopefully someone with more experience can do better... im just sitting here looking at bits, and even when i find the graphics i dont have any idea how to edit them or if it has any effect on the overall game or just one section of it. I would assume the glitches have to be found in the code. there is a reason why every kicker is glitching to black skin and why names pop up incorrectly. Ive also found the file which allows alteration of the schedule in season mode, but i cant make heads or tales of it. Its also a .txt file, so im sure someone could load this years season if they wanted to pretty easily. as for the stats... im lost. I wish i knew how to fix this stuff, but im a newb beyond belief. *EDIT* I went back and put up all the programs i have, i also have an extremely extensive PDF file that should have everything anyone wants to know about NDS hacking posted in the original post and i will try to put up a virgin rom later.
  10. So i am very new to hacking roms, but i really want to make this game play better. A lot of people have written it off because of stat tracking problems and small glitches that i know can be fixed. Heres the thing, i am new and terrible at understanding what im doing with hacks. I have a lot of the tools i would need for hacking this ROM if i was experienced. So what i guess i am proposing is for someone with hex editing/palette/2d graphic/cut scene hacking experience to help me out here. Here is a list of things i would like to get done With this ROM, - fix stat tracking - fix kickers defaulting to black skin color in game (sprite) and cut scene - fix receiver name becoming defensive players name in catch cut scene - (optional) graphics updates... like helmet logos or changing the logo icon option to nfl logos or something of the like. more jersey options. - (optional) BG music fix... The old school TSB SNES BG music is unlockable, but for some reason the sounds for first down, 4th down and Touchdown! were not included, this would be a simple edit if i had the files from the original SNES version i could probably do it myself. I already edited out the language filter. so if someone would like to help me i can send you anything you need to get started. * http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/368852/NO_GBA_2.6a.zip * <----- Very Stable DS Emulator. * http://www.filehosti...Xenophobia).nds * <----- Virgin ROM. * http://www.filehosti...012preview2.pdf * <----- Crazy, big, long extensive, informative write up of NDS hacking. 11. ok so a little extra info, today i started messing around with the actual ROM to see if i could learn to hack it and alter a few things that really bug me.... i think i stumbled across how to get rid of the language filter!!!!! if this works i will be really happy. BTW, the 'profanity' they have nixed in this game is listed... it is extensive... it is hilarious! a few examples of interesting 'profanity' Footjob Gobontheknob cornhole circlejerk cameljockey HAHA!!! hairpie Hentai (really? the word hentai is profanity?) jap jiggaboo Manloaf ...what? spankthemonkey teabagging whipitout and my personal favorite... Jewboy. being jewish makes me love this even more Ill report back to let you guys know if this works. *EDIT* It Worked!
  12. Update #2 for today. I formulated the RB stats... its was difficult getting a proper balance so that FB's and power runners would be effective in a different way. Speed kills in this game, but having Vontae Leach in front of Ray Rice should make a difference in blocking and ultimately how many yards he picks up. so here it is... Run Speed - Direct Copy Rush Power - Strength + Toughness+ Trucking /3 Max Speed - Direct Copy Hit Power - Strength + Blocking Impact + Hit Power /3 (For QB's this stat is a direct copy, but this was a major stat in FB and power runners game, so it had to be changed a bit to make the strong runners stronger) Ball Control - Awareness + Carrying + Ball Carrier Vision /3 (awareness and carrying are obvious, but i added ball carrier vision to nerf the stat, or enhance it depending on the player and their real life ability to see the field and players trying to tackle them) Receptions - Direct Copy The offense is really coming together, As of right now faster backs can be hell to try and tackle. But that should all change once the defensive stats come in. Im hoping this also helps against fast QB's. Vick and Cam Newton are monsters on the ground, but their hit power is low, so they get tackled pretty easily once they are caught. With faster DB's and stronger Linemen it should be more of a chore to pick up yards on the ground from the QB position. *Side Note* Ive finished the AFC North RB's but am not doing 4th stringers until rosters are closer to final.
  13. Sorry for being lazy the past couple of days. GF's only day off on sunday so obligations to that are first priority. anyway... Finished ALL QB ratings!! its actually moving along a little faster than i thought. With other player positions there will be less stats to calculate, but more players per most positions, so it should go even faster for OG, C, OT, DT, K... etc Next up are RB's and all receivers. This looks to be on track to releasing on time, right around the first week of the season. I need to do a check on roster updates for this week. Once the season starts, the rosters are set. I shouldnt have to update big trades or make small updates because its so easy to do that yourselves in this game.
  14. I agree, this is an awesome way to play tecmo bowl... I do think TT's idea of different playing surfaces would be really awesome. I could see a beach in SF, or a Schoolyard in Dallas. Something frozen over in Green Bay. I dont know if you guys like Super Dodgeball, but they did this and it works great.
