  1. Crap, I thought this thread discussed actual glitches!
  2. How did the TSB III sim go? I forget who the Browns' QB is in that game. Maybe your cartridge is prophetic, seeing how the real Super Bowl actually played out!
  3. After two fumbles I'd be running that stuff out of bounds!
  4. I'm itchin' to put in Majik, I really am, especially when it's the end of the half and I have one last chance for a TD heave. I stick with George just cause his atts are better, and I'm practicing being unemotional cause I know it's gonna get intense later in the season. I mean, I'm the Colts for Bo's sake. Culver ran for 206 more in my second game, so that puts me at 430 for the season. For some reason the Oilers were pretty lethargic against the run, and the only two pass plays I picked, my one shotgun, they blitzed both times. I'm just waiting for George to go down on an onside kick, week 13 when I'm 12-0 or something, and Majik will take the Colts to a 19-0 perfect season, mullet majik.
  5. When Jerome was on the Steelers it just made sense. Hard-nosed running football, just like everyone is saying. "Rothleswhateverthef*ck" is a refridgerator box, but that's just awkward when it's a QB. I liked the Kordell Stewart days, at least on NFL Blitz (N64). O'Donnell was good--is good in TSB I.
  6. Word, excel rating guides are the best. I downloaded one for NES from Tecmo Bowl.org and it was immensely helpful preparing for a live tourney.
  7. But back to TB King's original post, lemme tell you I started a season with the Colts and rushed for 224 & 5TDs with Rodney Culver in the first game, so looks like I'm on pace for 3584 yds & 80 TDs. Just kidding, get back to me come playoff time, and I'm sure I'll be eating humble pie. The Browns are THAT bad, especially in week 1. Can't wait until George gets hurt so I can sub in ole Majik,
  8. I know, I was just beeing a hard ass. Coaching trees are really fascinating. It's also interesting how some teams like the Bears will never be QB-focused because they aren't running the West Coast offense, while for the Packers they absolutely MUST have "the man." The similar nomenclature between teams like the Packers/49ers make it interesting when they are both premier teams, like they are now.
  9. Way to go, De Berg! I just finished a 15-1 (I think my only loss was to the Vikings), Super Bowl-winning season with TB and was looking forward to reading others' experiences with the Bucs. I liked the detailed description of the Super Bowl drama. I empathize with the dilemma of when Cobb goes down--who to pound it with? I agree with TailbackKing that Anderson is an option, but actually Vince Workman is nearly identical in ratings, and has a better ability to catch the dump-off. He helped me a lot in my season when Cobb went down (I think twice). Against the very aggressive teams I found myself circle-scrambling with DeBerg, or Vlasic if he was in better condition, waiting for someone to get open or make a break for a JJ. Ron Hall and Claiborne helped me get out of some tough defensive rushes. That O-line is pretty weak at times. My Super Bowl MVP, also against Miami, was Mark Vlasic. I found his higher-than-DeBerg passing speed was helpful in finding someone post-scramble. I won 23-3. I wrote down my SB stats and I'll record them here, along with my season stats, later when I get home. I know this was a while ago, but do you remember what your strategy was on defense?
  10. Thanks for the love! I realize with all the TSB content on this site, reading yet more info on one of the games might not have a huge draw. Still, some people enjoy somewhat objective, comprehensive reviews. I appreciate the gesture.
  11. I, too enjoy sticking with one player throughout the game. It would be fun to do that for one player for an entire season, see what kind of stats one can pile up, etc. Recently I began a series of seasons, choosing the worst finishing team from the previous year. So, I'm the Buccaneers (after 2-14 season). They are a poor defensive team. Mayhew (CB1) is the only DB with decent 'user pick' ability. Thomas (LB4) is the best overall, while Nickerson (LB3) is good and so is Dotson (LE). Player conditions are very important, both on offense and defense, so these affect who I am both in defending the pass and the run. If I have a feeling they are going to run up the gut then I can be an LB and swoop in; if pass I can be the same and bump Dotson free. If 3rd and long and I want a user pick, it's Mayhew. What keirre said about safeties makes a lot of sense, especially in online play, but playing console with a team like the Buccaneers I'd much rather go with the one of the four players I mentioned, or another guy who is in good or excellent condition.
  12. Super Bowls 3-47 I'll take, they followed Lombardi's legacy so they owe it all to the Packers.
  13. What does "starting lineup" mean for first and second winners? Looks like another great even put on by the SETA!
  14. I don't find the Jets offense to be light's out, nor the tandem of McNeil and Thomas to be particularly explosive. I enjoy moreso the LB tandem of Byrd and Clifton. One can buzz around and make tackles, the other can go back and snag a pick or 2. After being eliminated in my tournament game with the Jets against the Lions, I feel inclined to practice more with the Jets and mine what they have to offer.
  15. I want to express how great a job trenttracker and co. were in putting on this tournament in Cullman. I can't wait until the next tournament in Athens. I'm really getting my game together cause I know it's going to be incredibly fun and a well-run event.
  16. I see where you're coming from with Miami and KC, but what about Cinci puts them above the middle? There seems to be only Francis and Fulcher on D. Then again, Fulcher could conceivably be that difference.
  17. I'm back from the tourney, and I have to say, this perspective of the 'middle teams' was very helpful in my tournment prep. Each of the match-ups I played in were of same-tier teams: 1) NO vs. GB 2) RAI vs. PHI 3) WAS vs. TB 4) NO vs GB (again) 5) DET vs NYJ For my next tournament I will have a more detailed knowledge of each team's strengths and weaknesses, which team matches up well whom, etc. But for my first go of it, this concept was incredibly helpful.
  18. I'm flattered by the references to Green Majik in the player notes. That's a me!! I appreciate so much the work everyone has put in to make this tournament a reality. Suicideking, looks like you will be the furthest traveled at the tournament. It's only 2.5 hrs from Chattanooga, TN. I feel some solidarity with the out-of-staters--I believe there's also a competitor from Nashville. See you all tonight!
  19. I heard somewhere 176ish-0 is the verified record. I once beat the Packers with the Lions 102-0. It was the first time I topped 100 and realized your score is capped at 99. Somehow, I can imagine someone getting 146 on the Colts, who are worse than the Packers, especially changing plays. If Ryp made up the challenge, wouldn't he have claimed to not changed the plays?
  20. TomTupa's mentioning that Junior Seau was 21 in TSB is creepy. He died last year from suicide.
  21. Hey guys, I reviewed TSB I for a SNES fansite a few months ago. I'd appreciated if you read it and told me what you thought. The SNES Hub is a really good site for those of you who dig the system. Quality articles and reviews are posted every week. http://playingwithsuperpower.com/tecmo-super-bowl-review/
  22. As to the original question...I had a season with SEA going and was riding Chris Warren. At the time I wasn't sure whether he was supposed to be all that or not, he was just the only one I could get things going with. But he got hurt at least three times in the first five games. I'm sorry, but I don't want to have to run out of bounds with my running back or kick returner Every Time. That's not how they do it in the pros. Got to the point where I hoped he wouldn't come back from the hostpitol so he wouldn't break my heart again.
  23. Very cool. I'm attending my first TSB tournament next weekend and I've been wondering what match-ups to choose, or expect from my competitor. This helps me gauge what to expect.
  24. Johnny Johnson over Rod Woodson? Tailback King will love that!
  25. Good luck, tecspec, with your journey to Madison and your effort to learn the 'ins and outs' of this game as you prepare for tournament play. In a little over a week I'll be headed to Cullman, Alabama for my first real-lifeTecmo tournament. I, too, don't play online, so I empathize with any foreboding feelings you may have before you clash against the elite of the nation. Decorated Tecmo veteran Mort (he won Madison a couple years ago) has a blog called Mort's Tecmo College. I've found it extremely helpful. I'm also scouring this site for Tecmo tips. But Mort's advice can be considered gold, since it's fresh and has produced results for him. Again, good luck!
