1. Any updates here, fellas? Wish I was smart enough to help. Appreciate your work.
2. Love the ROM - I'm about as picky of a roster guy as they come, and you're spot on throughout! I'm fairly new to the ROMs and Emulators...can anyone tell me how to save my progress in season? Only way I know how is to keep the game and my cpu on which sometimes isn't an option (or it restarts itself with cpu updates)...thanks.
3. Baron - awesome work, man. Any chance you may be doing some work on Baseball Stars for NES? Looks like there hasn't been an update on this site in quite some time. Hopeful you can help!
4. Haven't seen one in a while - easily my favorite baseball game...Does anyone know if there's any recent updates to a modern ROM? Thanks!
5. Tecmo - You would be my hero. Thanks for dedicating time to doing this!
6. Anyone have a current link to a 2012 Baseball Stars ROM?
7. SOOOO glad to see this! Just threw 7 INT's with Vick!! And I believe Rolle had 4 of them!
8. Buck I think this is the perfect "happy medium", for me atleast. I'm playing with the Titans right now....I'm 0-2 but have played two of the toughest RB's (Jones-Drew and Ray Rice) thus far. Big plays at the wrong time have doomed me in two otherwise close games! I like the Titans. They have a good feel to their ball club. I do have one concern and I'm sure there could be a great debate (much like Rivers) about him....Chris Johnson. He's a 13-13-44-13. In other words, he doesn't get out of the backfield and his 44 is about worthless because you rarely get to the second level of defense with him! Don't get me wrong, I've made some solid 10-15 yard runs with him. But the 13 13 on the front end makes for 5 or 6 signifant negative yard runs each game, accounting for 25-40 yards in losses. You could certainly make the case that he had an awful year. I don't dispute that. The Titans were 31st in rushing and Johnson had his worst year yet. However, he is a 1,000 yard back. He's also been a top 5 RB statistically over the last 3 years. If Adrian Peterson had a down year in 2012, I wouldn't make him equivalent to Spencer Larsen!! The Titans finished 9-7, and Johnson also racked up 57 catches. He's a threat, he's "productive", and he's certainly comparable or better to the following players whose rating give them a better opportunity to be productive: Beanie Wells (and this is a BAD condition rating of 31 19 31 56) 1,047 yards, 4.3 avg., 5 runs of 20+ yards, 10 TD, 74 ypg, 10 receptions; Team Record: 8-8 Chris Johnson: 1,047 yards, 4.0 avg., 11 runs of 20+ yards, 4 TD, 57 receptions; Team Record: 9-7 Michael Bush: (GOOD condition 31 38 38 75) 977 yds, 3.8 avg, 5 runs of 20+, 7 TDs; Team Record: 8-8.....toughness factor gives him ability to make plays Other notables: Change ATL LB Witherspoon to Weatherspoon (Mizzou guy had to fix it) Change Leseaon McCoy from God to Moses
9. Buck! And the Sproles picture too! What happened with Collin Klein? He's a beast....but anyways... Yes I miss the JUICED version so much better after playing the update. Is there a happy medium or was this considered it? I haven't downloaded the newest JUICED version since you put it into the ZIP but I plan on it Sunday. After downloading the newest "decreased Juice" version, I'm running a bit too wild and I honestly miss working hard for even a 90 yard game with my backs. It is nice to be able to make some plays with playmakers though. It's a tough choice....either way, great work on the ROM. And happy playoffs!
10. Wow I didn't notice that new bend route! That is hot! So I assume the pass speed gives you a good weapon on that throw? I've been tossin it around with Carson Palmer so I'm sure if I run with the Chargers in my next season, it will be very noticeable how much better Rivers is. Plus with Gates and V Jackson, those are two guys that bring the ball down for a catch even in traffic. I'm good with Rivers, otherwise they're unstoppable. And an 8-8 team shouldn't be unstoppable. Speaking of unstoppable, the COM Vikings with Peterson and Harvin!
11. This is a GREAT discussion. Rivers is a unique QB.He is not clutch and doesn't take over games. A lot of his stats come when the Chargers are behind. But #'s are #'s. I think you're right - with the weapons at his disposal (Jackson, Floyd, Gates) he will find success in the game without being rated extremely high. Again, my experience/knowledge with the ratings are limited so I have to ask, is the passing speed a MAJOR factor in a QB's success on the game? What do you consider the single most important rating for a QB's success? With passing speed, I can see how the ball beats the defenders there which makes perfect sense. But with the jumping capability of the defenders, and the ball traveling lower (it seems), could it also be a bad thing? I'd love to hear your take on that. Your other updates on the QB's look good. Cam Newton HAS to be good, especially since his team's skill players are so average (outside of Steve Smith) yet the Panthers are 7th in the NFL in total yards and 5th in the NFL in scoring!!
12. Roster Considerations - Quarterback Bump Up: Philip Rivers is awful (63 38 25 50) yet in the top quarter of QB's statistically: 6th in yards, 8th in TD's, 7th in comp %. Statistically he is superior to Ben Roethlisberger (44 56 69 50). Rivers is actually rated lower than Colt McCoy and Blaint Gabbert in some categories on the rom! Bump Up: Cam Newton (63 44 38 63) - the 44/38 is awfully low for a guy who is top 10 in yards and TD's. Big play ability and knack for finding Steve Smith. Maybe a notch down in pass speed and avoid block but crank up the accuracy and control? Bump Up: Christian Ponder - just his running ability. He had over 200 yards in just 11 games and looked nimble, if not extraordinary on a play or two using his legs. Plus he's got 6's. I'd say he's a notch above Alex Smith, athletically. Tune Down: Matt Hasselbeck (50 63 50 38) - he certainly had a better season than expected but #'s fell in the middle of the pack for NFL QB's (10th in comp %, 14th in yards, 15th in TD's) Tune Down: Colt McCoy (31 44 44 38) - I know he's not rated high but he's simply not very good. For him to have some rating that are higher than Rivers is crazy. He is 2nd to last in yards for QB's with atleast 400 attempts. He essentially ranks last in TD's for QB's who started the entire season. Personally I like the kid. His accuracy could even go up but his pass speed way down.
13. I use a Playstation 2 controller with a PSX to USB adapter. love it. #1 thing, you gotta be conservative (unless you're rolling with a good QB). #2, unless you're using a "great" team, every play counts - on offense and defense. punt when you should punt, kick FG when you can. as far as running, get what you can, then try to break stuff after you get a feel for the RB/opposing defense. pick running plays that attack the strength of the opposing defense. if all your RBs are similar in skill, check conditions and play the "hot hand". mix up the play-calling. as far as passing, quick hits are good. with shitty QBs/WRs, you're gonna be checking down a bit. if you can extend the play, "look defenders off - with your feet" - that is, make the defender move from a spot and throw to the open guy. as far as deep balls, sometimes you just gotta "trust it" and go for it - don't worry if the WR is covered. a new and improved rom is in the works, btw. I am defintely learning a lot but this rom will send you back to reality, quickly! I love it. The hot hand works great....Michael Bush was punshing the defense in week 2 in good condition when McFadden was in bad shape. I love taking 3 points when I can, and Janikowski can bomb. Really looking to see what you've got in store next!!
14. I read your post and took a break from bowl games to play a quick PRESEASON game with the Raiders vs Browns. I got some fumble recoveries, kicked one FG, got a safety, and I remember McFadden had two rushing TD, Ford (WR1) had two receiving TD, Heyward-Bey had one receiving TD. I tried to play a balanced offense (running and passing). on defense I mainly ran "4-3 over" and used the bottom safety. it took me a quarter to get going, but I got it going. I attached the playbook I threw together and the stat screens of the game. try out different plays. use ones that work for you. READ THE COVERAGE and MAKE QUICK THROWS when possible! (for example, I would quickly read the top CB, if he sits, I quickly hit Ford on the 10 yd fly) I have no idea why your guy is diving, sounds like you have a hardware/controller issue. You have given me hope Buck haha. Thanks for taking time to play a game. I do think I need to get a regular Nintendo controller and plug it into a USB connector. I currently have a Retrolink NES controller and it seems like the joystick portion isn't true to the movements.
