  7. Well. Another Midwest Tecmo in the books. I'll be giving the weekend rundown from my perspective. Ended up finishing the route early on Friday night in order for my wife and I to help out at our parish festival for a couple hours before we dove into the Tecmo festivities. TecmoPsycho made his way to my house during that. Left the festival around 8:45 p.m. and Psycho was literally minutes behind. Hooked up 2 stations in the living room. Expected others to come. Psycho and I played numerous games. Lefty and Moskwa (Detroit) ended up coming over for some games as well. Moskwa had to adjust to Lefty's horrible attempts at smacktalk. By the week's end, Moskwa and Lefty were immense buddies. Played until around 2:30 a.m. Didn't remember going to bed. Wife wakes me up at 7:55 a.m.; had my alarm set for 6 a.m. Yikes. Rick's Tavern expected us at 8 p.m., but we got there at roughly 8:30 a.m. This year's setup was probably the quickest and easiest. TecmoPsycho, Lefty, 513boy, Fullam and plenty of others took control of the game play stations. I manned the setup for live stream. Not one single drop in the connection this year on the stream, as I hardwired it to their router which was a comfortable 4 feet away under one of the server stations. My wife, my daughter, my mom, my wife's friend Kim, BigMV's wife -- they all helped the last 4 years) arrived to help put together Yuengling goodies bags for the registration table and eventually accept registration. The bags consisted of t-shirts, Keychains, a pack of 1991 football cards, and some other items. Registration lasted until 10:30 a.m. I configured the pool play groups according to preregistration. Not one no-show. And we had an additional show up. Four alternates were available to fill in pool play groups of 5. We had 45 players, for 9 groups. 10 TV's were set up. The live stream TV didn't have a specific group assigned to it. As we were able to spread out the No. 1 and No. 2 seeded pool play games accordingly on the stream. Ashley, BigMV's wife, and Kim began accepted money for raffle tickets. $1 per ticket. $5 for 6 tickets. Yuengling supplied a golf bag, a neon, hockey stick picture frame, a mug case, 30 t-shirts, a parking sign, a winter coat, and much more. BigMV donated his signed Fulcher jersey from the 2013 tourney to be raffled off. 4 Reds tickets also donated. Kevin Cabarello and Fullam each donated a tshirt to be raffled off. We ended up raising $400, putting Midwest at over $3,000 raised for the Fulcher Foundation since 2008. Practice games still took place as I panned out the final prep to begin pool play. Introduction to the tourney took place at 10:40 a.m. and play began. Fulcher showed up roughly a half an hour later. He accepted the head football coaching position at Cincinnati Christian University and this is the team inaugural season. 110 players were reporting to campus on this day. So we were fortunate to even have him with us for a portion of the day. Fulcher spoke when he arrived. Always enjoy his presence. He also donated a signed jersey for the winner. Pool play saw some of the best games I've ever witnessed: A fill-in, Kenny Brunner, also my best friend, battled it out with John R. in a 4 overtime game. John won 23-17 on a Marino touchdown pass. ... Louis B., Arncoem, BigMV and Regulator went 4-0 in pool play. ... 4 groups saw three 3-1 players in each. ... BigMV received the overall No. 1 seed. ... Every No. 1 seed in each group either finished 4-0 or went 3-1 to claim all or a portion of the group's top spot. ... There was contemplation on someone picking AFC-NFC in pool play. Those teams are not on the list of teams MW posts with its printout of rules. The idea was quickly dropped by tournament organizers. Bracket play: All 45 participants entered the single elimination tournament. ... Elite 8 was double elimination. ... MV was ousted in round of 32 against Kyle K, the brother of Eric K, who won this year's satellite. ... I beat Arncoem in Sweet 16 to advance to Elite 8. Arncoem knocked me out of 3 other Midwest tournies. ... Ones11fahzu lost to Jordan W. in the round of 32. ... Fullam a fill-in and decent Tecmoer to boot, downed a sloppy drunk Regulator in Sweet 16. Fullam planned on leaving at 4 p.m. ... He was forced to stay until around 7:30 to claim fourth place and $50. ... TecmoPsycho was downed by Diaz in the final three matchup. TecmoPsycho won the third place trophy along with $100. ... JimSocks filtered his way through Jason S. (Wisconsin), Joey V, Arncoem, his best bud Jordan W, and Psycho to reach Diaz in the overall finals. ... Diaz had to beat Socks twice. ... Diaz lost to Psycho in Final four of winners, before beating Chris V, Fullam and then Psycho in the double elimination losers bracket. ... Diaz does the unthinkable. ... JimSocks took home second place and $200. ... Diaz grabs the title and $400. Clean up wasn't all that bad. We got out of Rick's Tavern around 10 p.m. ... As I'm getting in my car, the owner of Rick's chases me down and asks me when we would like to schedule #MWTecmoX. ... I told him we would meet up and talk, and plan on marketing the tourney together. Hoping to blow it out of the park next year. ... Nicki, our server last year, had a long day again this year. Thinking that with 100-plus people off and on watching/playing, I'm figuring she was well to do in the end. My tab was roughly $100. Summer Shandy was my choice this year. Along with 5 bloody Mary's to start the day. My wife, who is always patient on this day every year, asked her niece to watch our kids after the tourney. Her niece said yes. Psycho, BigMV, myself, Mv's wife, Lefty and few others met at McKinley's Pub, the satellite MW tournament site, at around 11 p.m. ... We left to go to a clubbish type bar called Cobblestone to enjoy a louder evening. ... We closed it down. ... Psycho, my wife and I swung by Taco bell at 3 a.m., went home and ate it. We talked until about 4 a.m. Went to bed around 4:15 a.m. Set my alarm for 6:30 a.m. because I had to get up and deliver Amazon packages on Sunday at 7:30 a.m. ... I didn't wake up until 7:50 a.m. The wife had to wake me up. ... I hated life for the next 6 hours. The help from many people during Midwest Tecmo weekend does not go unnoticed. Plenty of things have to happen in order to make sure players do not see any glitches. It was a perfect weekend. Thank you all. We will announce the date for MWTecmoX at the start of the new year. ... Again, Tecmo still continues to intrigue me every tournament. The thing I took away from this weekend: Many Tecmoers at Midwest were talking about how you really shouldn't use the word "upset" any more. I agree. Just describe how you won, or how you lost. We will get it. There are no more upsets. There are no more guarantees. This is Nintendo football's chess match. Set yourself up. Don't make mistakes. The End *Photos and results to be posted soon.*

  9. Good deal! Looking forward to hanging with you. We will be updating the list of participants on the website beginning in May.
  10. We are still discussing this. We did not have a Best of the Best mini tournament last year. Odds are we will be adding other fun events during the tournament that ALL participants can, or at least consider, participating in.

  12. The plan. Hopefully. Maybe. Probably not: 1.) Wife has our second child, due Feb. 4. 2.) Provide two weeks of fantastic fathering skills in order to persuade wife that all is well for me to make this trip. 3.) Between child being born and TecmoXII -- watch the Bengals win the Super Bowl? 4.) Convince USPS that I need off that Saturday. 5.) Deliver mail in Cincinnati that Friday before tourney. 6.) Drive straight from work to Madison. 7.) Arrive at roughly 2 a.m. Saturday for the tail-end of some practice game, hotel pandemonium. 8.) Sleep for a couple hours. 9.) Provide a, more than likely, less than sub-par performance at TecmoXII. 10.) Drive overnight, arrive at work in order to deliver Amazon packages on Sunday morning. 11.) Thank the wife. Chance of me coming this year: 50%

  15. Wanted to thank everyone who came to watch and the 14 budding Tecmoers who rekindled their love for the game. If I get half of the group from Sunday at the main event in July, the satellite tourney served its purpose. But regardless, it was a fun time to sit back and watch the new guys play. Yuengling overwhelmed us with prizes and attention, so I can only imagine what they're going to do for the main gig. But here are some photos from Sunday's satellite tourney, which was won by Fairfield, Ohio resident Nick Steer. Side note, he missed his 6 p.m. softball game to win this tournament. His brother was there to root him on. He was continually telling Nick that this was worth missing softball. And son of gun, he won the thing. And he was good, too. Toggled like a champ. He was by far the fastest tapper there. Nick Steer and his brother. Nick Steer and Dave Pitzer, who finished second. Josey Lawson, who finished third. Mind you, I've known this guy for more than 10 years. He kicked his Super Nintendo through his TV twice in one night after I beat him with the Patriots against his Falcons in TSB3. He bounced back pretty well from that incident that took place roughly 8 years ago. For those who commented during the tourney on Twitter, Joey was not playing in this. Joey and Matt Diaz kindly took to the live stream to announce the entire 4-hour tourney.
  16. Didn't know what kind of attention it would get locally. One of my best friends owns McKinley's Pub, so we sort of collaborated ideas and went with it. Funny part is Coconuts made a mention that he was going to make an appearance to play. If he does, I couldn't deny him a spot if he'd actually travel over 400 miles to play in a NEWB, 16-man tournament. Matt Diaz and Joey Vogt will be on the mic during the live stream all tourney long, giving their expertise at www.twitch.tv/mwtecmo. Should be an overall fun, quick day. Yuengling is our sponsor, and will provide handouts for all competitors and prizes for the top 3. First will get a Yuengling golf bag, second a Yuengling mirror, and third a Yuengling polo.
