He was one of my favorite QBs on this game and for me, he could chuck it deep all season to AC and Hassan Jones while utilizing Chris Carter and Herschel Walker on short stuff to move the chains.

Let's play: Which Team Would You Pick?
WackoforFlacco replied to vikingmoe02's topic in Tecmo Super Bowl - NES
If you have a QB with any kind of mobility, that sweep to the top behind the 3 WRs is a nightmare to defend from the top CB position because of that convoy of blockers. Head to head, I'm more concerned with my blocking than the speed of my RB since any player who is worth a crap is usually going to have the anticipation to get to a spot to make a play, even if my back has a speed advantage. -
My old friend Aaron used to play the Cowboys all the time and he would never hesitate to yank Aikman for Babe Laufenberg, a lineup move that anyone else watching would always applaud.

When a team has one good, super fast defender, I tend to run at them...a lot. My solution to Deion would be to almost never pass and make him stand still and wait on my running game and the convoy of blockers that comes with it. One of my arch-nemeses from the old Tecmo days was a Browns fan and he was able to maneuver Mike Johnson into position no matter what I was trying to do. He'd cover short or deep, could flow to outside runs and attack the hole on inside runs. He wasn't flashy, but he was reliable and there is a real value there. You don't want to be doing backward somersaults while the ball carrier is breaking into his death zigzag. -

This thread reads like The DaVinci Code of Tecmo Bowl, but it's actually interesting. -
Why don't teams use this TSB formation anymore?
WackoforFlacco replied to TeCmO_sUpEr_BoWl's topic in Tecmo Super Bowl - NES
You might be on to something now that the current trend has been RB by committee, meaning you theoretically have more than one RB that is some form of offensive threat and defenses are being built to defend spread out, passing offenses. It might serve a team well, especially if they can't get a strong QB, to line up the fat guys and bring the game back between the tackles. It'll be interesting to see if there is a pendulum swing back to that or if this style of play in the NFL is truly going to go the way of the dinosaur. -
It will skip ahead until it gets to a game scheduled for either a "man" or "coa" team and do so as far as you have chosen the schedule to skip ahead without pausing at the end of each week. It will not automatically go right into the beginning of your game though. It will stop at your game and you have to actually start it. Oh yeah, and welcome to the board.

Cleveland-They just have more players that are worth a crap. Atlanta is basically Rison and Sanders. Mike Johnson is a solid enough LB that you can sort of manage a bit of defense. Seattle-This is a toss up talent wise, but I hate the Browns Minnesota-For me, as fun as it is chucking long all day to Flipper and Ellard, having to use Kevin Greene from that bottom LB position is a pain. Minnesota is such a balanced team and it's not a bad day when you can chuck it long to AC and Hassan Jones. KC-They are essentially a better Minnesota except they give up a little bit at the WR position. Love a team with a really good defense and a kicker that doesn't even ask you to cross the 50. -
I think Pittsburgh is solidly better than Atlanta. Their defense is as good any on the game and though the offense is crap, it doesn't turn the ball over if you don't do anything stupid, i.e., try to pass. I vote for Minnesota and KC. They have rock solid players at every level on both sides of the ball.

Good old fashioned season going
WackoforFlacco replied to WackoforFlacco's topic in Tecmo Super Bowl - NES
Well, after a weird 8-7 victory over the Oilers in the championship game, I went on to edge out the Giants on a fourth quarter field goal. LT never became a factor, I contained the running game and I got him to force his passing game. He really only had one good drive, but it came on a short field. Again, I feasted on running plays going to LTs side while sprinkling in shots downfield. It's not that I am really good or he wasn't that good, it's more that I am really really good with Pittsburgh. It takes monumental patience on offense, trust in your defense and getting Gary Anderson into FG range. Also, there is no shame in punting with Pittsburgh. Aside from FGs, it is often your best offensive play. -
A couple friends have been coming over and we have been firing up the Nintendo playing Super Tecmo Bowl. I have been the Steelers and the other dudes are the Giants and the Dolphins. Right now, I am undefeated meaning I beat the Giants earlier in the season. The Dolphins jumped in late and the guy is a newbie, so they may not make the playoffs. The guy was actually running the football???? Well, I pick ME to win the Super Bowl and I know just how I plan to do it. I only ran three plays against the Giants when I beat them earlier, keeping it close to the chest like the Redskins in the preseason this year. The one key play that he never caught onto was my running straight at LT. The others were the QB sneak to use as a throw away play and about four shots downfield with old reliable two long-two short. I guess the message here is RUN AT LT!!! Of course if you are on this board, you probably know that already.
