Love COA mode!  Its the only way I’ve played for probably the past 5-10 years. I set rules though. No changing playbooks and no subs unless injuries occur. Fun trying to win the SB with various teams. 

There was an online Coach league for awhile. I was in it for a couple of seasons. It's an interesting diversion from the other formats. 

Does anyone here ever play a coach only season? If u think tecmo is unpredictable at times u would try coach mode! Me and my son play season after season playing coach mode! It’s super fun and really different and hard! How many of u guys have tried this befor? Down the line I’d also like to have a big coaching only tournament heald somewhere and crown the best coach around! Side note my son is 42-0 as a coach so far hahah

For me personally. This. The AI's decision making is just too primitive to be very satisfying.

I like the simulation games where the computer plays against itself (I have a league currently going in Front Office Football 7 that is up to year 2040 right now) however the A.I just isn't good enough in Tecmo to have much fun doing something similar with TSB. 

4th annual Tecmo Bowl (original-4 play) & R.B.I. Baseball tourney in Omaha Saturday March 30th @ Bigway Burger. 
Tecmo Bowl @ noon, RBI @ 6PM.  $20 per tourney, or get into both for $30.
 
3 game opening round of group play with results used to seed tourneys.  Each tourney is capped with the top 24 players from group play.  Tecmo is single elimination tourney, RBI becomes best of 3 in semi-final & championship round.   Top 5 players from each tourney win cash.  1st place wins a trophy in each tournament. Similar to TSB tournaments, we employ a small set of game play rules.

The COM starts getting juiced if you rattle off 4-5 wins at the beginning of the season. That means a precipitous drop in an ability to run the ball well. I am currently using my "Worst Team" rom in which all my RBs like Kenneth Davis and Leroy Hoard have a starting MS of 25. I'm finding it almost impossible to run the ball.
 
However, I noticed that the "money" run plays like the Run & Shoot Sweep R (Run 3) seem to be no more effective than other runs. In fact, I think the R&S Sweep L is a little more consistent in gaining a few yards when the COM is juiced.  Do you know of any other plays that are good to use against the COM late in the season?
 

I play a season similar to that where I pick all the teams every week during the season, constantly switching them. I try to follow the winners in the real life 1992 season with my picks to try and see how close I can replicate the real results. 

That’s awesome man!! Me I switch back and forth during season to help teams win games then come playoffs I pick just teams I have not won with yet it’s so much fun!! Keep digging brother u will have every teams super bowl trophie yet!!

Coming this September is the Tecmo Super Bowl Football Legends Simulation!  Learn more about the teams involved in the video above.

Using my Legends rom I created, this video series puts the top team from 28 franchises against each other iinto a season-long competition.   At the end, we'll determine the greatest NFL team of all-time...at least according to Tecmo.
 
The season lasts 16 weeks, with all AFC teams playing each other and all NFC teams meeting in the first 13 weeks.    The final three weeks features AFC vs NFC play.   Follow along with video recaps of each week's games every Sunday, along with a full "Game of the Week" each Thursday.

Each team was chosen after a statistical analysis of each franchise's most successful squads.   The competitors span seven decades of professional football history, featuring 17 Super Bowl champions, five NFL champions, two AFL champions and four conference champions.

Because the original SNES Tecmo game came out in an era with 28 teams, four franchises had to be left out.  Sorry Jaguars, Texans, Cardinals, and Falcons, your teams were the weakest .

For years, this has been the ultimate challenge to me with every Tecmo game. I want to try and win a SB with every last team. 
 
These days I mostly stick to TSB 2, but I still play this one as well as TSB 3 a lot. I've had some ups and downs in my journeys with all the teams. 
 
IMO the beautiful thing about these old games is that every team is truly unique with their own playbook and style of play that it truly is a personal experience to use every team. It's why I like to do full seasons playing every single game of the week. Through doing that over the years, I've learned the teams inside and out through these games. 
 
This game has an advantage over TSB 2 and TSB 3 being that you don't have to worry about defensive injuries or really adjusting defense. Those games have advanced defense, so it makes learning the teams a lot different with the formations and backup players. 
 
Anyways, here's how my journey has went so far with all the teams. 
 
 
Bills - 1 try. This was easy, even with playing the Oilers in the playoffs. I drew Dallas in the SB and crushed them 31-14.
Colts - 1 try (extremely lucky and very frustrating. I could write in length how crazy this season was and the SB was easily the hardest one I've ever had vs the Cowboys). 
Dolphins - Not attempted yet
Patriots - Not attempted yet
Jets - 4 tries. I kept losing to Buffalo in the playoffs but when I finally did reach the SB I got to play the Eagles. The COM stupidly went pass happy with Cunningham and I won 21-7.
 
Bengals - Not attempted yet but I want to cause I know how bad David Klinger is. He alone will make this a challenge worthwhile. 
Browns - 5 tries. Ohhhh my god...this was the hardest one yet. It took 4 tries to even get them to the SB and then a heart breaking loss to the 49ers. I beat them in the SB the next season. 
Oilers - 2 tries. It's really difficult to maintain a good run game with Houston, but if you can do it, it makes the ride easier. 
Steelers - Not attempted yet
 
Broncos - Not attempted yet
Chiefs - Incomplete. Out of 3 tries, they either lose to Buffalo in the playoffs, or the one time i made the SB, they got crushed by the 49ers. 
Raiders - Not attempted yet
Chargers - Incomplete, 3 tries. I love this defense and I love Marion Butts, but I can't stand Stan Humphries. I always go with Friez and he isn't much better. 
Seahawks - Not attempted yet. This one will probably be the ultimate challenge though since their offense is so god awful. 
 
Cowboys - 1 try. Don't even have to go into details, since this is the best all around team in the whole game. I even went 15-1 with them.
Redskins - Incomplete, 3 tries. I've gotten them to the NFCCG twice where they lost to Dallas and the 49ers. Another time they got blown out to Green Bay in the divisional round.
Eagles - 3 tries and wow, this was quite a challenge. Had to face Dallas AND the 49ers in the playoffs before rolling a Dolphins team who posed no threat. 
Cardinals - Not attempted yet.
Giants - Not attempted yet
 
 
Bears - Not attempted yet.
Lions - Incomplete, 3 tries. It's taken me a lot of practice but I've figured out how to use their defense. NFC is brutal and usually is why they don't go far in the playoffs.
Packers - Incomplete, 3 tries. If it weren't for Favre and Reggie White, this would be one of the worst teams in the game. Try running the ball with them and you'll see what I mean.
Vikings - Not attempted yet.
Buccaneers - 2 tries. First time I lost in an upset to the Oilers in the SB. The second time, I beat the ever loving crap out of the Dolphins for my biggest SB blow out ever - 41-14 DeBerg MVP
 
49ers - 3 tries. This offense is so easy to score with but there are times when the defense is a problem. Needless to say, Dallas stopped me in the playoffs my first two tries. 
Rams - 2 tries. First time, lost the SB to Buffalo. Second try, I came back from a 14-3 deficit and mostly won due to Thurman Thomas getting injured and a fumble return for a TD. 
Saints - Incomplete. 4 tries. The most one dimensional good team in the whole game. The defense alone took me to the NFCCG and I always lose cause Wade Wilson is blah.
Falcons - Incomplete. 2 tries. I like the Falcons offense a lot in this game, but Dallas just destroys me in the playoffs. Maybe some day.

I would definitely start with getting that computer. Doesn't need to be very fancy if its just for tecmo. There is a guide to playing online here somewhere. Also you should join Discord (the link is in the guide I believe)
 
Welcome. Tecmo rocks fa sho. I used to play in online Madden league (EAFL) back in 05 and 06. It was a PS2 league then but I think it has blown up since. The commish was a Cowboys fan (like me) who still does a podcast called The Madden Voice. 

I also really have no idea how to play tecmo super bowl online? I seen some vids but I’m not the most tech guy ever that’s for sure lol. I play ps4 online but I do not own a actual computer lol I prob need someone to come to my house and hook it up bc in the video I seen it looked hard for me. 

I’m ranked 3rd rite now. ALCREZ I play on ps4. I agree I do need to attend some tournaments for sure. I’m actually going to attempt to attend every one there is coming up soon!! Mainly even more than just getting better or even improving, I just want to meet and greet all the many opponents I will be facing and build life long friendships! Nothing better than playing a game u love around a bunch of good company! I’m fixing to retire all together on madden and tecmo super bowl will be my full time hobby for at least next 10-20 years of course god willing.

Frankly, you really should go play in Madison, or at the least, just go an watch live. The stream is a great resource but it doesn't compare to being there live. And if you really want to get your chops up you should not only go to as many tourneys as you can, but I would also get to playing online. While it is not the same or as tight as console, it is a great way to improve your game.
 
Also, what is your Madden handle? And what console do/did you play it on?

Perhaps someday.  One of my intentions with my Super long first post was to simply show how this could be done, with the idea that anyone who wanted to recreate the potential to do a live season on console without having to wait for just one game at a time. In all my tecmo history, the only seasons I did with more than just me and my brother or buddy wad the very 1st one I did back in December 1991 when 8 of us did it while we were still learning how to play and the other wonders of the game compared to the original Tecmo Bowl. And we mostly played the computer due to the season schedule. 
 
I didn't really post this with the intent to just open it to the public,  I'd prefer to know someone before inviting them to my abode. There are a few guys still in the weeds ( or moss) out here in the PNW that I'm sure will come out of the woodwork, but they will have to have been to some live tourney before getting an invite to this . And as stated before I do hope to have out of towners participate here yet I don't anticipate a ton of guys to come all the way out here. Perhaps I'll meet you at some future Madison or other tourney in the future.
