Marino is a boss in this game.

I had a 5,000 yard passing season with him and then blew it in the playoffs when my lack of a balanced offense caught up to me and a juiced Raiders team kicked my ass in the AFCCG. That Raiders team ended up losing 28-3 to an 8-8 Cowboys team in the SB. It was one of my most hilarious seasons ever. Dallas shouldn't have even been in the playoffs, then got to the SB cause the Packers just barely lost to them on a blocked field goal.

I've been playing these games for almost a decade now. I didn't find them until 2010.

Since buying TSB 2, I have played it more than the other 2 on SNES. It's my favorite of the bunch and where I keep going back to when I need to play Tecmo. As I've said before many times on here; it sticks out cause it's the one Tecmo game where anything can go wrong and the COM can really punch you in the gut at any given opportunity.

I had a game just last week between Buffalo and the Jets in the 1992 season. I subbed Ken O'Brien at QB earlier in the season but for this game I was Buffalo. Despite going up 21-10 early, Thurman Thomas fumbled 3 times which nearly lost me the game. The Jets scored a TD, stupidly went for 2 and did not get it, but they were OK even after I kicked a field goal to make it 24-16. Next drive, I try to extend the play with Kelly for a deep pass, but the ball is tipped and then intercepted, ran back for a TD. This time, they get the 2 point conversion and we're tied at 24-24. End of game, Thurman Thomas fumbles, they get the ball and score a TD to go 31-27. With 11 seconds left, I threw a bomb to Don Beebe for a 76 yard TD.

What made it hilarious is that the Jets ran a dime and the coverage was spot on with 2 guys covering Beebe, whom I beat for the TD. I jumped out of my chair and had to go Wooooo like Ric Flair. The Tecmo games are the only football games I've ever played that give off a feeling like that. I wish I had known of these games existence back in my youth, I would've gave up Madden back in the 90s.

Dumped from the Genesis version (should be the same as the SNES)
This was dumped using TSBM 2000 so it swaps RP and RS compared to how it displays in the game.

Agreed. From 1982 to 1998 is about my favorite era all together for the NFL. That was the era of the dominant, juggernaut teams that fill up lists of GOAT teams. Some of the best QB classes and head to head QB showdowns (sadly they were mostly blow outs like 1984 and 1989), not to mention historic defenses. I hated the 49ers back then, as well as the Dallas dynasty (who didn't?) but it was actual greatness we were witnessing. IMO the 1991 Redskins are the GOAT team and I am grateful now that I was able to witness them.

The NFL looked better back then too. The old kelly green Eagles, pastel blue and white Oilers, orange crush Broncos, aqua and white Dolphins, creamsicle Bucs, blue and yellow Rams, silver and blue Seahawks, etc etc. I liked these colors so much better than what these teams changed to. It seemed some time in the late 90's, teams began changing their colors and making them darker. This led to navy blue becoming the most overused color in the NFL and IMO a lot of these teams lost their charms when they changed to darker colors. The only two teams who changed to darker colors that I think did it well was Denver and New England, and yet Denver's uniforms did not look right until a few years ago when they finally switched the navy blue to orange for home jerseys. Every time the Dolphins and Bucs break out their throwback jerseys, the fans say they look better than the current uniforms they wear.

The only 90's year I didn't like was 1999 cause the league was so weak at the time. From 1999 to 2001, those 3 years were weak points for the whole league. The 1999 Rams and 2000 Ravens both had some of the easiest schedules ever of SB winning teams with the Rams ranking #1 at easiest SOS and Baltimore's list of opposing QBs in 2002 was truly pathetic. Things improved after 2001 with better teams, but I don't think there ever would've been 7 win teams making the playoffs back in the 80's or 90's, let alone those mediocre teams winning their wildcard games.

Fumbles are not handled by the AI properly.

If the ball is fumbled, and picked up before the game properly announces the fumble, possession of the ball will remain with the offense even if the defense gains possession. This will result in a safety if the ball is moved into the end zone in this time.

There are many various potential glitches that occur (some pretty awful) due to fumbles.

As shadowhooch said, the only way to prevent forced trades to your team is to man control each team.

If a team is on COM or SKP, it still gets trade attempts. They just aren't shown to you until after they are processed, and just as you can request a trade with a COM team and the com determines if it goes through, they can request trades with you and the com determines if they go through.

I read your article about team ratings on TSB II.  I thought it was great.  I also read about keeping the original playbook to make it challenging.  I tried it and wow huge difference.  I chose the Bears went 15-1 lost to the steelers in week 16.  Then got killed first round of the playoffs by Dallas.  I had the 2nd worst ranked offense and the 1st ranked defense for every category.  I used 5 minute quarters.  I was curious on any other tips you might have?  What quarter length do you use so the stats are about right for games and seasons?  My offense was horrible, The playbook is terrible for passing.  RB Bears was injured 4 separate times during the season lol.  Just joined the forum to ask you a few questions.  Thanks for your time

Deberg, lol, The Bucs are one my favorite teams to play with on this game, I love the Nickerson/Thomas combo on D, and the underdog feeling you get from playing with them. I agree, changing the playbook makes it a lot easier, I just get frustrated with the crappy playbooks of some teams. I have been playing with original playbooks since reading your post, and it is much more difficult. I've gone undefeated with the usual suspects, and won the SB w/o going undefeated with a few others. But once I get past the top 10-12 teams, it is very difficult.

What about lineups? Do you change them to get guys who are in bad condition out and guys who are in excellent condition in?

Wow, can't believe how cheap you got it for back then.  I paid close to a $100 for a complete in box version of the game this year.  It was the most elusive game for me throughout the years. I pre-ordered a copy of the game when I was a kid from a store in a different state, but they ended up not getting a shipment of it. Ever since then, it was on my list of games to get for years. I finally buckled down and bought it when I saw a complete copy. TSB 1 for SNES will always be my favorite, but I really liked the different years you could play in this version.  It really is a good blend of 1 and 3.

Can't believe it's been 6 years since I first bought this game. I've played so much of it, it's not only become my favorite Tecmo, it's pretty much the only one I play anymore! Definitely my favorite football game ever. I feel like I've been playing it for a lifetime just from knowing so much about it. I really hope other people play it in the future, cause I feel like the only person in the world who loves this game LOL.

I really hope some day in the future I can get into editing/hacking and make my own custom ROM. I want to do the 1989, 1990 and 1991 seasons as something of a prequel to TSB II. The only gameplay mechanic I would want to alter is the COM going for 2 point conversions often. I'd completely cut 2 point conversions out to be accurate on the seasons they're based on.

Yes, that's one of the reasons I absolutely love TSB 2.

The CPU tends to play you tougher as a season drags on if you are undefeated or just have a single loss. I think the CPU gets "juiced" if your team is undefeated.

The one flaw though is the CPU calling 2 point conversions after almost every touchdown, even only being down 7-0 early in a game, however I've learned that the CPU tends to stop this late in a season. If I ever get into hacking and editing the game, this is the one thing I want to fix more than anything.

That's a hilarious story. Something about Aikman that has always got me with Tecmo is that he's one of the hardest QBs to intercept despite his TD/INT numbers being dramatically lower compared to the other hard to pick off QBs. I can count on my hand just how many interceptions I've got off him in any game. Picking off Aikman, Young, Moon and Marino feels like an achievement.

Yes, definitely. Fumbles happen more regularly in TSB 2 than the other versions, or so it seems. It's the one version of Tecmo where anything can go wrong at any time like the COM calling your play and forcing a fumble, or just a tipped ball getting intercepted. I think I am the only person in the world who loves TSB 2 and a lot of it has to do with the increased difficulty. The COM can really bite you in the ass if you get lazy with play calling or run the wrong defensive scheme.

I had a season one time where Barry Sanders fumbled 6 times in a matter of 3 games. That is my most memorable one, Sanders turned into a fumble machine that year for some odd reason. I've also had it happen with Jerry Rice from time to time (he can fumble often in the 1992 season) and Michael Irvin a few times.

The fumbles tend to happen often if the COM calls your play right or when the player is getting gang-tackled by 3-5 players.

It's a re-mastered version of the "Greatest Teams" rom I originally created in 2008 for the SNES and have updated periodically over the last few years.

The Tecmo Football Legends rom for the SNES features the top team from 28 NFL franchises.   The teams span seven decades and include 17 Super Bowl champions, five NFL champions, two AFL champions and four conference champions.   Play against the best to find out who the best is!

    Teams included:
    1990 Buffalo Bills
    1958 Baltimore Colts
    1972 Miami Dolphins
    2004 New England Patriots
    1968 New York Jets
    1988 Cincinnati Bengals
    1964 Cleveland Browns
    1961 Houston Oilers
    1975 Pittsburgh Steelers
    1998 Denver Broncos
    1969 Kansas City Chiefs
    1976 Oakland Raiders
    1963 San Diego Chargers
    2000 Baltimore Ravens
    1992 Dallas Cowboys
    1986 New York Giants
    1960 Philadelphia Eagles
    1952 Detroit Lions
    1991 Washington Redskins
    1985 Chicago Bears
    2013 Seattle Seahawks
    1962 Green Bay Packers
    1969 Minnesota Vikings
    2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
    2015 Carolina Panthers
    1999 St. Louis Rams
    2009 New Orleans Saints
    1984 San Francisco 49ers

The default schedule has 13 weeks of conference play, with all teams playing once, followed by AFC vs NFC in the final three weeks.

_DEBERG reacted to deadfaulkner in TSB III Play Diagrams w/ Labels
We're just about to start a new season at the TLL, so we're setting our team lineups and playbooks.  One thing we thought would be useful was play diagrams that label which player gets the ball (for running plays) and how the receiver progression works (for passing plays).  I thought I'd put the results up here.

One thing I learned from this is that there are some passing plays that are wrongly diagrammed in the game's play selection screens.  For one, all the fake dive passes show the back as an eligible receiver in the diagram (i.e. yellow route arrow), but he is not (obviously, since he dived).  I've grayed those routes out in these diagrams.

Interestingly, there are two other passing plays that do not, in the diagrams, show all the receivers that are actually in the passing routes.  The first is the 1Motion PA Pass in the Pass1 slot: the tight end is diagrammed as having a blocking assignment, but he's actually an eligible receiver who runs a short in.  The second is the T Motion Short in the Pass4 slot: the QB fakes to the FB, who is diagrammed as rolling to the bottom to block, but he, too, is actually a receiver in the pattern.  Both of these routes I've shown in light green in my diagrams.

Thanks to slimjimmy for getting the original play diagrams from the game.  He's a true TSB III guru.

Thanks for the kind words! I always keep the original playbooks cause I feel if you change them, the teams become completely different. The teams with crappy playbooks like the Cardinals and Vikings make for a challenge and it made me start using teams differently. I love using Tampa Bay in these games cause despite being a trash team, their playbook helps and they can be a descent team off that.

The Saints defense is amazing in all the Tecmo games. TSB 2 has their peak with the 1992 roster that had the full Dome Patrol and even in this game, they are a top 5 team just off defense alone. I can never get them to the SB though cause Wade Wilson is a terrible QB and as much as I loved Dalton Hilliard growing up, he was never the same after his knee injury and Tecmo accounts for his lack of speed after that.

The TSB 2 Saints are doomed for the same reason with having Bobby Hebert at QB (Hebert is surprisingly really good with the Falcons in 1993 and 1994 modes of TSB 2 but it may be because the Falcons offense is loaded with solid receivers and can rack up yardage and points)
