  1. I know TBK lost his 3rd match because he was in the 'tournament of "champions"' (AKA losers) with me, but he lost early in that in another PHI/PHX matchup - and you know who he had. I was looking forward to playing him...maybe next time.
  2. Ted et al., You guys put on an amazing tourney, thank you for all the work you put in. It was a pleasure meeting all of you...thanks to Manyo for the lesson - I look forward to getting another shot with better plays TBK - gotta love a guy that sticks by his team no matter the odds - he definitely not a fair weather fan. Gudor - aka, 'Best of the worst, 2014.'
  3. I emailed Madison guys, this is what I got: The rule is firm, and applies to all teams, including the Redskins and the Falcons. In previous years, we allowed teams like that to have WRs carry the football (e.g. Ricky Sanders or Andre Rison), but people were confused as to which teams/situations allowed this, so we changed the rule to be black and white. As you may expect, half the players like the rule, and half the players don't like it. Good luck with your tournament. If you do decide to use our rules or our format for your tournament, we would appreciate attribution. Josh
  4. More importantly, if I want to run those plays, I MUST put RB in WR1 spot. This rule is HUGE...totally changes team match-ups for me and my buddies (we allow and RB/TE/WR to be used interchangeably). thanks for the quick reply...
  5. Thanks kamp... Does that mean we must put a RB in as a WR if we want to use all the run plays? Take the Redskins, if you play with the standard players (RBs as RBs and WRs as WRs), many of the run plays (non-reverses) will end up running with a WR. Does that mean you must put a RB in as a WR if you want to run those plays? So when you say change the playbook, does that mean I can make my running plays utilize ONLY ONE true RB...or of course substitute in a RB as a WR as I explained above and have access to all runs? I assume we cannot utilize those run plays that put the ball in a WR's hands unless we had a RB in there. I am also emailing Madison people as I just want to make sure - it changes the teams so much. I hope that makes sense. Thanks again.
  6. Quetion about the rules: I think the rules state something about receivers can only run the ball on reverses...what about teams like the Redskins (they only have 1 RB but 3 WRs). On nearly 1/2 of running plays a receiver ends up running the ball (and lined up as a WR, not a RB). I assume the ‘spirit of the rule' is that you don’t put a WR in a running back position (and run the ball), but some teams only play one RB…then what?
  7. I would kill you with SF...ha ha...Don't you love when you talk TECMO to someone and they reply with, "I am awesome with SF." Well, who the f__k isn't? Conversation goes like this: "Hey, you play TECMO?" "Hell yeah, I am awesome." "Cool, who do you play with?" "SF, I kill everybody." So now you are thinking to yourself, "Does this guy really PLAY?"...so you ask, "So you change your plays and everything?" They reply with, "No, I just throw it up to Rice every time." And you end discussion, knowing they don't TECMO. J. Johnson best player...that is saying a lot. Best player on Shitty team...maybe more fitting. That said, you better be able to run you A$$ off if you play the Cardinals, because they can't throw for s__t. Cardinals are an interesting dilemma...kind of like the Saints. If you pick those teams (and are playing an equally strong team), you gotta believe you can win the button-pushing. Life better not get in the way of Pac-Rim for me...
  8. okay, okay...I have been intrigued by the whole Johnny Johnson conversation. It feels like there is an inside joke - someone want to tell me the story?
  9. I let the Boss know that I want to go to this tourney, and things are looking like it will happen. I spoke to a fellow TECMO buddy, and he is stoked about going. So, can we just show up at the pub and 'register' before the tourney? Say between 10:30 and 10:45?
  10. Wow...that will definitely open up the play book and I am guessing running (button pushing) becomes kind of key. I MUST find a way to come play a little with you all. Thanks again for the info.
  11. thank you for the great replies... my only issue left is with the lineman. obviously me and my buddies play with that same rule (nose guard can sack nearly all QBs by diving except for like QBeagles and i think Testaverde). However, we do allow a lineman to be played on those stupid motion plays (reveivers start in and motion out, run up the middle). the lineman can just walk in (and then dive to tackle)...so totally different type of play, but kind of the same. Any idea on if that is allowed? it gotta find a way to ask the wifey about the tourney. What does it tend to payout for top spots (not that I have a chance, but I might be able to use that arguement with the boss)?
  12. I am a rookie to this site (and playing tournaments/etc...but I do know how to Tecmo) and had some questions regarding the Seattle tournament coming up. I read the rules via Madison website, and I like the format (except for the whole non-running backs running as running backs...but rules are rules). Are there any other rules that I might need to know about? The rule regarding rushing with D-line (Lurching)...So I assume you cannot choose nose-guard and simply dive in? does 'popcorning' mean you need to lock up (or bump off a locked-up lineman)? Are the All-star/pro-bowl teams part of the tourney? I would have to brush up some, especially on Bills and 49ers because when we get together, those are the only two teams we cannot play. Are there rules to changing plays? Anything that is weird? Assuming you keep winning, about how many games would you play and how long would it likely last? I would like to attend, but with 3 kids and all, could be difficult. Oh, and to be sure, this is Tecmo Superbowl, not Tecmo Bowl, right? Thank you for any insights.
