  1. I don't know much about this stuff either, but I know you need a hex editor to do it. There's a free program called translhextion.
  2. Does anyone know how I can turn off (if possible) the random re-ordering of games that happens between the final game of one week and the first game of the next?
  3. Drummer sent me the following fix to the NFC West issue, but you need to download a free program called Translhextion first: open the rom up in translhextion (of course) on the menu, Offset / Jump to... / x3C010 / Ok on the menu, Selection / Select Block... / x4000F (Select up to and including offset:) / Ok on the menu, Selection / Copy / Ok click on the hex area so it unhighlights on the menu, Offset / Jump to... / x7C010 / Ok on the menu, Selection / Paste / Overwrite and Paste Data how many times: 1 / Ok on the menu, File / Save or Save As... DONE I've attached the Translhextion file. Translhextion16c.zip
  4. I'd like to recommend separating the "Forums" category (under the "By content type" on the left column, after clicking "View New Content" on the right side) into two categories -- "Online Tecmo Leagues" as one category and "All Other Forums" as the other category. I think that there are probably more people that use this site than you think that aren't in any of those online leagues, so those posts are completely irrelevant to most people. Furthermore, I bet that the people in those leagues probably have a Favorites or Bookmark link directly to their particular league forum, so few people would really miss the catch-all view of the forums. Just a thought.
  5. bruddog, how can I get your code for those grapple hacks (man vs. man, OL/DL which is effectively com vs. com)? I'd love to have it to add to my current rom.
  6. With the free agent market and 2014 depth charts still very fluid, it doesn't make much sense to release a rom that will be outdated one day later. Look for a tool called TSBToolSupreme if you want to edit the rosters yourself. It's available on this site somewhere. If you're worried about screwing up your game, just make a copy of the file before you start messing with it.
  7. Well, then I would say that's one of the best hacks developed to date then. Up there with computer juice, ultra logic defense for the computer, and jstout's new smart computer QB hack.
  8. I didn't realize a potential hack like that would be so complex. Thanks for your feedback on that. Bruddog, does your OL/DL grapple hack apply to everyone on the field?
  9. That's why it would be useful NOT to have 50 PS quarterbacks. There are plenty of 63+ PS QB's in the game (at least, in Drummer's rom). In my opinion, JJ's are coin-flip dramas based too much on chance at the expense of skill, and thus deter gameplay. The mind games stay very much alive with a QB that can throw 55 yards downfield or greater. I promise.
  10. I'll echo TeBowl's question -- does that OL/DL grapple hack apply to all players on the field? I hope so, because it's a great idea. Also, has anyone considered creating a "Limited Deep Passing" hack that limits how far a QB can throw the ball downfield based on his Passing Speed? My thought is this: 81 PS = 70 yards in air 75 PS = 65 yards 69 PS = 60 yards 63 PS = 55 yards 56 PS = 50 yards 50 PS = 45 yards . . . and everything under 50 PS stays at 45 yards Effortlessly throwing the ball 100 yards downfield is pretty crazy.
  11. Well, if you're playing the computer in juice mode, I think a run can be just as potent as a long pass, so I don't mind the seemingly completely random play-calling. In some ways, the randomness makes the computer tougher to defend.
  12. Wow, I've been saying that if someone could finally do this, then the computer would finally start giving good players legit competition. This hack + juice is going to revolutionize MAN vs. COM play, and COA vs. COA. The computer already knows how to run in most cases. Now it can pass smartly . . . awesome. I tested this in MANvs.COM, MANvs.COA, and COAvs.COA, and it was perfect. That's not to say the QB's performed perfectly, but they shouldn't. Very often, the best NFL QB's don't see open WR's. Under pressure especially, the QB's will still throw into coverage but that's also realistic. The ONLY thing I might add to this hack is if the QB's first two receivers are covered and he has a 31 or better MS, then scramble. Definitely not necessary though. Great job! I hope this can be applied to Drummer's rom.
  13. I'd be open to starting a corporation among interested parties here to pool funds and buy the rights to the game. I think there could be some excellent commercial opportunities available for this game in the near future. TSB is currently undergoing a resurgence across the entire country. It probably all started with the TecmoMadison crew, but it's amazing. I've been reading, I was even talking to a friend of mine about a TSB fantasy league I just started with four other buddies and he blindsided me by telling me he was already in one! Couldn't believe it. Never would've imagined him in a TSB league in a million years or I would have asked him to join mine, but that's how big this fever is getting, I think. My own (pipe)dream is this: Buy the rights to the game, update it with today's teams, and continue to distribute it for free (we wouldn't be able to charge for it without NFL/player's union permission and even making it free would be dicey but I think we could get away with it). Then we start a website where people can start leagues of their own and play (and save) their league games on our website via some type of Flash or Java interface (I'm no programmer either). The biggest feature would be a fantasy function, where owners could draft their key players like in actual fantasy leagues. Revenue would have to be base primarily from advertising and other promotional arrangements until we sign a licensing deal with the NFL. Then we could charge a small fee to create a league or fantasy league on the website (but still distribute the ROM free of charge). I'm organizing a new fantasy league now where each person drafts first his team, which includes the team's defense, kickers, offensive line, and offensive backups, and then each successive round is used to complete his starting offensive roster (QB, RB, WR, WR, RB/WR, TE). For my league, I've assigned a salary to each player based on the total # of attribute points they have, and each owner has a salary cap that they can't exceed to build their starting offensive roster. I set the salary caps fairly high so that everyone will be able to build a good offensive team, but not an elite one, so that the juiced computer can still offer some solid competition. Anyway, I think that's where this COULD go. I know a guy who is a pretty big time game programmer too and his company has created some of the biggest video games in the market, but like you said, I doubt he'd be interested in this even though I would think that devloping it would be light years faster and easier for him than the stuff they're doing now.
  14. That's awesome. I'd love to see a Windows game too but my guess is that the development cost is too high given the benefit because the benefit, economically speaking, would have to be zero unless you owned the rights to the original game AND struck an agreement with the NFL and players union to use logos and players names.
  15. Can anyone tell me what exactly this does? My guess is that, if you edit the player attributes, it will adjust the sim ratings to reflect the player's new skill set. For instance, raising a player's MS by 4 notches will increase his Sim Rush rating. Is it as simple as that?
  16. I didn't realize it was an "either-or" situation. I don't know anything about hacking, so it surprises me when I see all the cool but complex hacks that have been implemented, but then hear that something that would seem very easy to change (to me) is actually impossible.
  17. If uniforms are going to be hacked again, I personally think that the first priority should be to allow pants to be colored differently from the helmets.
  18. Thanks Maynard. I wanted to be as realistic about my idea as possible so I included as many of the original plays as possible to expedite programming. I've actually sent this to jstout. He said it was doable but that the defense would be the hard part. I ask him for clarification and what I would need to do about that but haven't heard back yet. I'm trying to make this as simple as possible because I know there's probably a lot more to it than I could ever imagine. The goal is just a balanced playbook in all respects.
  19. Thanks bruddog. So this is something you've already done or is a work-in-progress? I really like the idea.
  20. Well, if I could get those ratings in comma-delimited format so that I could open them in Excel, I still think that making all those ratings adjustments would be relatively simple. I would actually START with the Madden ratings instead of editing any existing TSB ratings. It will take a little while to create a good formula but once that's done, the rest of the work goes lightning fast. I, too, would like to make RS and RP relevant and that can happen by having the formula interpret the Madden ratings in the right way (for instance, something like Madden's Top Speed*0.75 = Tecmo's Maximum Speed; Madden's Acceleration = Tecmo's Running Power; Madden's Elusiveness+Vision/2 = Tecmo's Running Speed . . . very unofficial examples). I really don't see these things as a big obstacle as long as I could get my hands on those Madden ratings in a comma-delimited format. My only question still stands -- what is bruddog's OL/DL hack? It has me wondering if the OL/DL grapple doesn't really factor in their respective HP ratings, like I always assumed.
  21. Drummer, do you get updated, comma-delimited Madden ratings at the end of each week? I'm not suggesting that ratings be updated every week -- that would be a ridiculous undertaking -- but I'm thinking about starting a league here at home next year where the ratings are updated at mid-season, and then again right before the playoffs start.
  22. what is bruddog's OL/DL hack? I think drummer's rom already incorporates the other hacks, so your idea would be realized with just some simple ratings adjustments with the TSBToolSupreme and the addition of this bruddog hack.
