  1. 2020 was a trying time for the world and this website unfortunately was no exception. Like most any forum/message board, TBorg was a place where you might find collaboration or conflict. Over the last few years there had been increasing conflict over in-person and/or paid entry Tecmo tournaments that seemed to provide some with the misplaced sentiment that a 20+ year old video game was some sort of fledgling e-sport to be capitalized on. This conflict unfortunately devolved to the point that litigation was brought against some long-time members, something certainly to avoid. In lieu of just closing down forever, the site is returning with a few noteworthy modifications. The site's forums will no longer be publicly viewable and the site will no longer make any effort to promote in-person and/or paid entry Tecmo tournaments. It's a hope this site will go about releasing new versions of Tecmo Super Bowl. It's a hope to take the 20+ years’ worth of information on this site and start organizing it in a more straightforward manner. It's a hope to return to the roots of the vision for this site: a site dedicated to the storage of Tecmo Super Bowl back-ups, the development of patches to update and enhance the game, and the retention of all things Tecmo Super Bowl related. It's a hope this site will be around another 20 years. Welcome back.

  2. Hello all, Over a period of years I managed to reverse engineer the entire Tecmo Super Bowl game into 6502 assembly source code with every piece of code documented and every variable labeled. There was a potential project in the works with said code but that project looks all but dead now. Because of that I am targeting the 30 year anniversary of TSB as the date I will publicly post all of the reverse engineered source code. -Bruddog

  3. Ok. I had a long conversation with Joe and we will give this a try. Here is the background. About five or six years ago my own issues with depression nearly got me to kill myself. I nearly threw myself off a large incline in a fit of rage with the people i had gone to for help. I have many issues with ECMC hospital besides that incident. The point was I was antisocial to a T back before I went to my first tourney. The process of breaking myself out of that and suicidal depression wasn't easy. Tecmo helped a lot and playing live helped a lot. Joe is the same age I was and has many of the same problems. Which is why I am convinced. You read his post about how he understands things are wrong. Yet at the same time he has been burnt by people trying to be his friend. A stolen car and stolen money most likely are the tip of the iceberg. He also understands that winning Madison won't change his life. Making better friends of all of us will. Which is why I am asking for people to donate 20 dollars apiece to support his journey and entry to Madison. Your entry buys a bus fair to Cleveland round trip. He will then carpool with my brother in my car to keep costs down. He will split a room with Louis, myself and El Tecmo. Of course he asks that in the time before the tourney he be allowed to play as many games as possible. We will also need to buy a nes controller and a nes adapater so he can practice with tpc games as he gets ready. 40 dollars for entry fee. Also some grub money. all this will run around 450 dollars. Anything more I will pay or he will. In the meantime I have given him some new job goals and life goals to get him out of the low wage trap he has been in. Hoepfully with our encouragement and a bit of luck he can make something good of himself. Anyways if you want to send a 20 dollar share. or more. Please send it via paypal to [email protected] The payback we agreed to was that in the event of 1st place he would pay back all of the sponsor ship money. In any other position we will allow him to keep the winnings to help him out with various life needs he may have. Thank you for your consederation Francis Buennagel PS. This is a serious effort. I expect there to be not one post in a non serious manner. donations recievied xxxxx $50 xxxxx $50 xxxxx $40 xxxxx $20 xxxxx$50 xxxx $50 xxxx $20 xxxx $50 xxxx $20 xxxx $40 xxxx $50 xxxx $20 xxx $20 xxxx $30 total 510 of 510 nes controller 8.95 usb nes adapater 13.75 madison entry fee 40 money order $41 shipping fee $5.8 shirt $5 bus ticket 30.5 money order 61 total 206

  5. Here's a few of my quick thoughts on TecmoXII. Read Psycho's blog if you want a good one. His recap is always great and this year was no exception. Good: Gats winning it & playing lights out all day. "The Kid" & Kyle coming out of nowhere! Sega's Bo-igi Board (full beers only please) Meeting Leif Powers, super nice guy. Hopefully a bunch of you guys got to chat him up. The large number of tight pants & attractive girls around the tourney for once (JimSock's friend's old lady wins, blonde TV gal 2nd, tight pants TV 3rd, pregnant orenga posse member was a serious darkhorse as well) Luke having a 20 minute convo with our cab driver while piss drunk discussing (our fictional 2nd & 3rd place finishes, kids, astrology, college life, & other amazing topics) Wish I had recorded it! Dave hugs (duh) Late night gyros with Luke, Coco, & Beefy (probably saved our lives, no food would have been a bad choice) #BurningMort - just watching the mail now for my July 23, 2016 "save the date" magnet. Casey's breakfast pizza (seriously how can Wiscy have no Casey's? #EPICFAIL) Thankfully we made Dubuque by around 10. Knobbe bringing his "9 incher" so we could play tecmo during the car ride up. It was awesome meeting a bunch of new guys (Flash, Raguse, DT, SuperDuper, Invader, Grip, Laz, probably missing a few) and seeing all the old friends again. Looking over late Friday night, realizing I'm in a room playing Gats while Mort plays Bruddog on the other TV. (Tecmo heaven?) The whole tourney and the way it was always ran through the years. Just an awesome job again everybody that helps out!!! Bad: No sleep friday night Forgetting my "eat shit orenga" bracelet at home Iowa's speed limits from the 1970s Bailey having to leave early & not getting to chat at the Plaza (hope everything's cool now) Knobbe bailing on us and flying home so we couldn't play tecmo on the way back Thinking Flo was short for some reason Super 8 TV being smarter than me My photo/camera bomb of Orenga's ESPN interview that never made air. My ebay ordered Moulds jersey not making it in time (dude says he "lost it", wtf) No Butt Douglas or Lodgefather to watch the Elite 8 games with. Ugly: Cute bartender (aka fancy pants) Friday night after I ask if she was working during the tourney, "yeah, but I heard you guys are kinda smelly" (she's not wrong) Dotdon's intoxication level (love you man, but you were in rare form!) Toolie's playbook vs Mort Lou on Friday night (Chris Pike blows that shitty reverse up everytime!) Sorry I was drunk and giving you so much shit. (not really sorry) Tick "holding" Regulator to 49 points. One of the better tweets of the day! Sega forgetting his Mydol and not going out Saturday night Not getting out of bounds to attempt a FG in the winner's bracket champ game, then losing the OT coin toss & game. (GG Matt) Two non-drinkers and (probable) virgins playing in the finals (maybe its for the best to shut this thing down now) - jk Thanks for the memories and hangovers Madtown!!!!

  6. My brother Mike and I will be making our Tecmo Madison debuts this weekend. Neither of us has ever played in a tournament, so we figured we'd start with the biggest and best. In fact, we've probably played 95 percent of our Tecmo games over the years head-to-head against each other. We are fully prepared for the possibility of going 0-2 and spending the rest of the day cheering on the field, although we are actively hoping to defy the odds and make a surprise run. Either way, this trip is a dream come true. I'm traveling from Erie, PA, and meeting my brother in Chicago before heading to Wisconsin. We will be staying with friends just outside of Madison, so I'm not sure if we'll make the Friday early registration, but we will definitely be there on Saturday. I recently found a letter I wrote to Santa at age 8 asking for "Super Tecmo Bowl or Tecmo Super Bowl" (apparently I wasn't sure on the official name.) Santa came through in the Christmas of '92, and more than 20 years later, my brother and I still spend time over holidays playing our own mini Tecmo tournaments against each other. When I first saw the documentary piece a few years ago, my brother and I joked that we should go someday. Then when I heard this was our last shot, we decided to make it happen. I am a high school English teacher. When I tried to explain to my students why I was not going to be in school on Friday, I got a mix of enthusiasm, support, and "What is Tecmo Super Bowl?" questions. After explaining to a generation of kids who do not know a pre-Madden world of football video games about Tecmo's historical significance and the legend of Tecmo Bo Jackson (he's the reason I am a Raiders fan, after all), they're pretty excited for me. Anyway, I look forward to meeting and competing against others who have grown up with Tecmo like my brother and me. Here's to a fun weekend! We'll see you all soon! Sincerely, Matt Hubert

  7. (After some more thinking, I thought I'd do a more comprehensive guide to a Madison First Timer. So, this is my advice to the world of rookies) The Comprehensive Guide to Being a Madison Tecmo Rookie Hello. If you're reading this, you're likely signed up for Madison Tecmo XI: Apocalipps Now. Congrats. Many of you have played in this grand championship before, but there are plenty who have not. For those who have not, here are bits and pieces of collected wisdom for anybody making their debut. Before we get to the point by point gibberish, this needs to be said- You're not going to win the tournament. Seriously man. I know you're good and I respect that. But you're not going to win the tournament. But, but, but, but... No. You're not going to win the tournament. I cannot stress this enough. You're not going to win the tournament. On the morning of Tecmo XI, there are probably 225 or so (give or take) of the 256 contests whom you could look in the eyes as they arrive and tell them with a straight face "You have absolutely no shot to win this thing." (And that's not me trash-talking by any stretch. Believe me, I'm very firmly one of those 225 guys on the outside). What I've found in my X number of years in this tourney is that the guys who come in truly believing they'll be crowned champion, despite never having played in Madison (let alone another tourney), tend to be the jerks that everyone remembers. I've always believed that we will never see an unknown or first-timer come in off the street and win this tourney. If you're making your debut and you're psyching yourself up and dreaming of raising the trophy, the faster you get that out of your head, the faster you'll actually enjoy the experience. "The experience" is the key phrase here. Outside of those 20-30 guys who could conceivably win the tourney, the real draw of Madison is the experience of it. Until you see a swarm of 400+ people surrounding 30+ televisions for 12 hours, you can't yet appreciate the electricity or the IMMENSE PRESSURE of playing in these games (this isn't you and Smitty from college drinking a 12er and playing a 7 game series on a Wednesday. Your heart will be pumping from the moment you arrive). For those of us who can't win, there's a list of 7 "Goals" you should follow on March 7: 1) Have fun. There are 256 pretty cool guys (give or take who all love playing the same game that have gathered together. Embrace that. Talk to them. Buy someone a drink, chat about strategy, past tournaments, yadda yadda yadda. The most important thing you should take away from Madison when you wake up on Sunday was "Damn, that was a lot of fun." 2) Pay attention. So, you're a rookie. You're not going to win (have I mentioned that yet?). But that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to walk away from the tournament as a better player. When you're not playing, watch other games. Examine the playbooks people use. Keep a vague tally of matchups you see called that make you go "Hmmm, interesting. I may try that one." See how guys hit hot routes on called plays. Watch some of the better defensive players in the tournament and pay attention to who they use on defense and the angles they use to stop plays. If you liked how some guy played and want to emulate their style, wait until some point in the day when you see them not deep in conversation and then introduce yourself. Tell them you admire their play. Pick their brains, ask questions. Don't get clingy (nobody likes a tagalong), but use those 12 hours of Tecmo to take in as much advice (and booze) as possible. (Notice how the "Goals" haven't yet mentioned anything about your own gameplay?) 3) Win a game. This should be the base goal of every player in the tourney. Win a game. 25% of the field will go 0-2. If you win a game as a rookie, you should walk away from the day feeling proud, regardless of how the rest of your tourney played out. 4) Win 2 games. So you won a game. Nice job. Think about what worked for you in that game and what didn't. Make an adjustment and try to win a 2nd game. I mentioned 25% of the field will go 0-2. Important to note that another 25% will go 1-2. That means if you can win 2 games, you finished ahead of 50% of the field. That's nothing to scoff at for a first timer. It's a huge deal, actually. Walk around with your head held high. 5) Make the bracket. You have to go either 3-0 or 3-1 to make the final 64. Assume that roughly 40-45 of those spots can be written in pen (we all know who they are), so that leaves between 19 and 24 or so spots truly up for grabs. A large bulk of those will be claimed by guys who don't have the capacity to win the whole thing, but have previous Madison experience, so they overcame the intimidation to make the cut. If you can claim one of those last remaining spots as a rookie, you need to be very, very proud of what you accomplished. If you don't make the bracket, who cares. Stick around and watch the games, make friends, enjoy the atmosphere. 6) Win your own "Super Bowl." This goal falls under both Pool Play and Bracket Play. The 225 of us who cannot win the entire tournament have to focus on smaller, step-by-step battles. We won't make the championship, but there's a really good chance you are going to play someone who's in that elite category. That's your Super Bowl. That's the big one. If you can knock a big name out, man, who gives a shit if you win it all at that point, ya know? You ruined so-and-so's day! You're a giant killer! A couple years ago I faced off against Chris Vogt in the opening round of 64. I KNEW that was my Super Bowl. I played that game like a motherfucker and came up 4 pts short. But I felt good afterwards (mostly because Chris is a solid human being and that made for a really fun game), because I got a chance to go heads-up with a big name and I took him to the wire. We all know who some of the big fish are, so no need to name names and start little turf wars about who is "a name" and who isn't. That's not the point. The point is you'll just KNOW when you're about to go up against a monster. That's your Super Bowl. Embrace it. 7) The last and final goal, Don't be a jerk. Tecmo is a Gentleman's Game. This isn't the Madden Nation tour bus on ESPN from a few years ago where guys swing their dicks in each others' faces after scores. Celebrate properly when something good happens, don't flip out when something bad happens. That's Tecmo. We've all been there. Shake hands after the game and move on. Have fun. Both in playing the game and enjoying the surroundings. In past years, the Herd Mentality of the collective group can tell who the jerks are. Don't be one of them. Hopefully this all helps and doesn't come off as too preachy. Just know that, as a rookie, the experience and atmosphere is the biggest thing you'll take away from this. I started playing in this tournament many years ago when I was still a Milwaukee/Chicago guy. I've lived in New York for 3 years and have gone back every single year. Not because I think my name can be etched in the Hall of Champions, but because it's fun as hell. Hopefully you'll walk out of the Badger Bowl on Saturday evening feeling the same way.

  8. DISCLAIMER: The numbers next to each player posted below are derived using an SRS iterative method from past tourney results. I used only the last 3 Madison tourney's with the following weightings (10%,30%, 60%) There are no subjective adjustments. They are merely ONE TOOL in evaluating a players past madison performances and relative skill. They can be thought of as the average number of points a player would beat an average Madison participant based on past results. A couple examples of ratings from 3 different players over the last 3 tourneys. low to high (-3.9, 12.3, 16.0) Consistent (14.0,13.8, 12.2) high to low ( 17.2, 13.1, 9.5) But appease the Tecmo Gods and ye may be rewarded with glorious endzone to endzone JJ's. Anger them and feel their fumble wrath destroy your tecmo hopes! Favre Region Group 1- Two-time champion Chet is the powerhouse here. If you are in this group your chance of a Cinderella 64 appearance goes down considerably. Given tourney history I expect a 3-0 performance from Chet who is looking to get back to the final 8 after losing narrowly to daboys in an epic game last year where daboys pulled off one of the jukes of the tourney. Having played Ryan.S online recently he has definitely improved his game from the last go around and has been training hard and the rating number highly likely doesn't do him justice and would be my choice to emerge from the losers bracket as knocking off Chet is a tall task few have been able to do. Ryan is also looking to avenge an epic battle that resulted in a 3pt loss to gripsmoke in OT. Scott S. has made it out of group play two years in a row and will definitely give this group a run for their money. Group 2- Should be a battle between Tecmo veteran O'Delle and another tourney vet David T. (Ashman) for the automatic berth. Odelle looking to get back to the elite 8 like he did in Tecmo X. Meanwhile Ashman lost to a hot Lefty in the round of 32 last year. Group 3- Tourney local Lucas S (Breaker) appears to be the favorite here assuming he's not super rusty. His last Madison appearance was Tecmo X where he made a run to the Elite 8 before losing to mort and bgboud. Ryan K (Hoigarrd) looks to reverse a downward trend of wins in Madison form 3 to 2 to just 1 last year but has mostly been losing close games. Site founder Matt Knobbe has lost in the round of 64 the last two tourney's and will be hoping to improve on that. Group 4- Matt DeGeorge is making his first Madison appearance but is no stranger to tournament play or Tecmo having won multiple northeast tourney titles and will be looking to make his mark on Madison and should be he favorite in this group. Two Jay's phillyopish and birdhas uwl will be his primary competitors. birdhas uwl nearly made the Elite 8 in Tecmo after a one pt win vs skunker in the round of 32 but lost to Jeff B in the round of 16. In Tecmo X his last appearance he failed to make it out of pool play as did the other Jay philyophish. Group 5- Tourney vet Rico (ryan33fulcher) looks to be the favorite of this group that is currently light a player that will assumedly be filled in from the play in tourney on Friday. Whoever earns that spot will definitely have a chance. Leif Powers (Nameless Loser) the creator of likely the most in-depth Tecmo FAQ to date will make his first Madison appearance. I know little of the current state of his gaming skills but he would be my other choice to escape this group given how little I know of the rest of this group. There are 2 other newcomers I know little about. Group 6- Louis brother of Mort has to be the favorite of this group light on players with tourney experience and or positive results. He will be hoping to break through to the round of 16 after losing to two quality players in the round of 32 including last years dreaded SEA/NE matchup loss to Gats. The rest of the group looks like a crapshoot to me but the next best player appears to be Justin L who do not escape group play the last 2 years going 2-2 both years. Group 7 - This group features two primetimes and a grogan. Advantage Primetime? Local tourney vet Troy H (Primetime) looks to be the cream of this group. He had a rough draw in the round of 64 drawing Vogt brother Jimmy V (Lefty) who narrowly missed the elite 8. He's also been eliminated buy Regulator twice in past tourney's so I'm sure he's hoping for some better matchup fortune. The other Primetime (Paul. G) has been trending up (-5.4 to 5.5). He had a very solid tourney last year knocking off Mort in the round of 64 and then losing it what appears to be an OT game vs Skunker. Brian R (Grogan) has also been trending up with each tourney ( -27, 3.7, 9.1). He nearly won his group last year losing by a mere 3 pts to online powerhouse Gats. He ultimatly lost to Louis in the roundof 64 . He should be dangerous with another year of tournmanet experiance under his belt. Group 8 - Local player Justin G (Lamefest) will be making his 5th straight appearance in what looks to be a group with a number of solid if unspectacular players. He will be hoping to turn things around with a number of double digit losses to top players. It should be a close battle for the 2nd spot between two Ben P, Ben B(Rockman) and tourney vet and good guy Kevin C.. I know Rockman has been getting his practice in online so he would could be a darkhorse that wins the whole group.

  11. Here is the original 28 team rom with a bunch of my own customs hacks and tweaks. This will be the basis for a more in-depth rom I am currently working on. I hope you guys like how it plays as there is so much more to come. JBI OG-Style 1.2 Update 6/19/15 >https://youtu.be/xwxin7KwVCQ Custom Hacks: New Attributes Added QBs have 3 new attributes: Ball Control, Evade Blitz, and Clutch Rating Skill Players have 2 new attributes: Body Balance and Clutch Rating Defenders have 2 new attributes: Pass Coverage and Clutch Rating COM QB Pocket Presence & Awareness If under pressure while in the pocket, the QB doesn't just blindly throw the ball as in the original rom. The QB insteads reads where the rush is coming from and moves within the pocket or outside of the pocket. Then the QB reads for either a scramble opportunity or for open receiver downfield. Then the QB decides what to do based upon the defensive pressure and pursuit. The QB can still decide to throw the ball to open receiver without moving within the pocket at all. COM QB can Throw on the Run If under pressure while scrambling, moving within the pocket, or simply rolling out from playaction, the QB can throw the ball while running. The QB awareness works on the run and not just in the pocket so be careful when blitzing the QB!!! COM QB Scrambling based on MS rating The higher the MS rating, chance of scrambling increases COM QB Take Sack Chance based on Evade Blitz (New Attribute) rating While standing still in the pocket, Evade Blitz is checked. Lower the rating, the chance of getting sacked increases. The QB can also spin away from a sack attempt while standing still in the pocket!!! Clutch Rating has effect on certain attributes For QBs it determines if PC & PA gets juiced, For Skill Players it determines if REC gets juiced, For Defenders it determines if INT & Pass Coverage gets juiced Body Balance Rating for Skill Players This determines the chance of spinning out of grapple as well as the COM Skill Player's ability to zig zag downfield. Pass Coverage Rating for Defenders Pass Coverage rating determines defender's ability to force incompletions Shorter, Better Angled Onside Kicks Hold Up or Down while pressing A on the power bar to angle onside kick. COM can do this as well. Directional Punts Hold Up or Down while pressing A on the power bar to directional punt. COM will directional punt as well. Total Control Passing Hack Lead your WR, RB, TEs with the D-pad in while pressing B to pass. You can lead them while they're still running their route and even after the have stopped in place. This give you the ability to throw your receivers open or move them to a bigger passing window. Get creative and throw fade routes (especially if you throw a lob pass) if receiver has a step on defender, comeback routes if defender drops deep, or turn fly routes to IN or OUT routes, etc. Touch Passing Hack Tap B to throw a lob pass, Press B to throw a normal pass, Hold B to throw a bullet pass. Note that a QB pass speed rating will determine how fast the bullet & lob pass is thrown. Cycle Backwards Through Receiving Targets Press Start to cycle backwards. Press A to cycle forwards as you normally would Smarter Passblock CC Command (also adjusted CD, CE, CF Commands) OL can now read if defender is already being blocked. If so, he will look for next available uncovered nearby defender. If no defender is nearby, he will hold his position. No more unnecessary double teams while free defender run right by the OL. Offensive User Moves Press Select (changed from A) for speed burst (will lose control momentarily and lose speed afterwards) Press B to dive for extra yardage (delayed get up, can be grappled during dive attempt) Press Start to do a spin move (will lose some HP, crowd also cheers) Press Select to take a knee while controlling QB behind LOS (does a kneel down animation too) Defensive pursuit angles based on Quickness Will be much harder to juke defenders with high quickness ratings Dive animation timing based on Quickness Defenders with a high quickness rating will dive faster Single Defender JJ Ints based on Pass Coverage (New Attribute) and INT rating If pass coverage is not high enough, defender will whiff more often. If pass coverage is high enough, defender's int rating gets checked. If int rating is high enough defender will intercept the pass, otherwise pass will be deflected. Defensive Jump/Dive for passes based on Pass Coverage (New Attribute) rating Determines if defender is able to do either on a given play Offensive Jump/Dive for passes based on Body Balance (New Attribute) rating Determines if skill player is able to do either on a given play COM better Read and React run support If a COM defender is set to go into M2M coverage, he will read for run play first and break off his coverage assignment if it is a run. 12. What: Tecmo XII: There's Something About Barry When: Sat, Feb 20, 2016 Where: Badger Bowl -- Madison, Wisconsin Tournament Website: http://tecmomadison.com Entry Fee: $40. Includes a tournament t-shirt (size to be selected during registration). Prizes: We will have cash payouts for the top 16 finishers, thanks to our sponsor, Retro World Series. These will be announced closer to the tournament date. Start Times: -- Early bird registration for the main event opens on Friday night at 6:30pm at Badger Bowl. This gives you an opportunity to get registration out of the way, drink a lot of beers, catch up with old Tecmo friends, and play some practice games. -- Registration for the 16-man play-in tournament also opens on Friday night at 6:30pm. The play-in tournament will commence at 7pm on Friday night at Badger Bowl. -- Saturday registration for main event will be from 9:00-9:45am. We always start our tournament on time, between 10-10:15 am. That means that if you don't show up until after 9:45am, we're going to give your spot to an alternate. We strongly recommend early bird registration on Friday night because of this. Payouts: First Place: $2400 Second Place: $1500 Third Place: $800 Fourth Place: $500 5th - 8th Place: $100 9th - 16th Place: $50 Maximum Number of participants: 268. The first 252 people who register are guaranteed a spot in Saturday's tournament. Should we get more than 252 people, spots 253+ will be held for a play-in tournament on Friday night at Badger Bowl. Time to be determined. The four best finishers in that play-in tournament will receive the last 4 slots in the tournament. The maximum number of players in that tournament is SIXTEEN, which gives us a maximum number of 268 people in the tournament. Please note that all people who register are still eligible to make their way into the tournament as an alternate, as folks cancel in the weeks leading up to the tournament. We tend to get upwards of 10-15 cancellations or no-shows every year, so even if you are in spot 260 at some point, you may end up in Saturday's event without needing to play on Friday night. If you register for a 252+ spot, and you can't make the Friday tournament for some reason, you still have a chance to make the tournament by checking in on Saturday, and waiting to see if you can fill the spot of a no-show. And even if you lose in the play-in tournament, you can still come back on Saturday morning for the same reason, without paying another entry fee. So, in short, we can accommodate A LOT of people for this tournament, and you shouldn't be discouraged from registering if we cross the 252 threshold. I should note that we sent out a similar update last year, but didn't end up needing the play-in tournament after all of the cancellations. Better safe than sorry, though. Tournament Rules and Format: This information is available on the Rules tab of the site. The site also includes past tournament results, pictures, competitor profiles, and a preview of this year's tournament. Questions: If you have a question potentially applicable to all competitors (rules, tournament format, etc), please post such below. This is the official tournament thread. If you have an individual question that requires our attention, you can reach us at [email protected]

  15. Twas the night before Madison, when in the hotel, all competitors were scrimmaging, including tecmodell. Preparations and play calls were accompanied by beer, in hopes that the Tecmo gods would bring them good cheer. Drunkenness and sore thumbs put the competitors to bed, while visions of JJs danced in their heads. Hungover by morning and riding with Matt, we pull into the venue and settled in to the pool play format. Before festivities began I looked up at the TV, only to see Josh reading from the Book of L.T. Now it is game time and make sure you have a cup, to get you prepared for those perplexing matchups. From screen to screen then what did appear, but a game changing fumble by Mike Rozier. The crowd became enraged with an eruption of cheer, I knew my tournament hopes were swirling this year. More rapid than tapping, the gods they interfered, a quick strike, a cover catch, and the three from mid-field. Survived another pool play and picked up some grub, and then see my bracket path, please hit me with a club. First it's Flo, then one of the Matts, third is Tony, next is Luke, on to Mort, only to face Chet and loathe this great sport. Despite this gauntlet, and despite my odds, this is Tecmo and anything is possible from the gods. Round one I ran on the back of Earnest Byner, I blocked out the noise reminiscent of a jetliner. Round of 32 I rifled the passing speed, how dare you give me the option of B.J. Tolliver or Rodney Peete? Sweet 16 oh how sweet is it, Orenga and your posse, well you can eat shit. Elite 8 is here and this was my day, as I caught some luck against ArtVandalay. The semi-final had a malfunction of the player 1 controller port, but the replay was not magic for the great one called Mort. The final was here and of course it was Chet, line'em up, line'em up and place your bet. I called Houston - San Francisco and he took Montana to Rice, Dick Dick I need you to put them on ice. Tied at 42 and only six seconds remain, the ball at the 48 and then I hear the rain. The rain might you ask with superstar teams, yes the rain hitting the window as I wake up from my dreams. #TecmoChristmas Merry Christmas and/or holiday of your belief to all you Tecmo brethren. I got the Madison itch. Any timeline on registration?

  16. For those who have to go through the significant other, and a rigorous conversation, in order to gain access to this trip we all call "Tecmo Heaven," I have a strategic, yet probable, way of convincing them to give you the green light. I've been fortunate to be a part of the last three Madison tournaments, despite my daughter's actual birthday being March 9. She turns 5 the Monday after Tecmo XI. Mind you, this is in the car during a trip with my mom, my fiance, my fiance's niece and my 4-year-old daughter this past Saturday to see Santa Claus at a local mall. Also mind you, I hadn't officially asked for the green light ... yet. Me: "Mom, did you know it is Tecmo Super Bowl's 23rd birthday today?" Mom: "No way?! Are you serious? That means you're getting old. It came out that long ago?" Me: "Yeah. Hard to believe, huh?" Mom: "When is the Madison tournament? Are you going to go again?" Me, looking at my fiance: "It's March 7 this year. They are having another tournament. I'm pretty excited." Fiance, looking at me (and I know it's about to get serious): "Jenna's birthday is the Monday after." Me: "That would be perfect. We can have her birthday party on Sunday, March 1. She'd love to get her presents early. She's still young, and she still may not know the true difference of when her birthday party is, just as long as it is before her actual birthday if her actual birthday falls on a week day. Which in this case, it does." Fiance: "I just don't know how long we can keep having her birthday party that far away from her actual birthday." Me, with a soft tone because others are in the car: "I definitely understand that. I think we can work out the best of both worlds with me enjoying a fun weekend with my brother (Matt), and Jenna getting the 5-year-old birthday experience early this year. I don't want to miss out on an important brother bonding moment like this being the fact that there's been an ongoing fear of it being the final one." Fiance: "We can have Jenna's birthday party on March 1." Have the Tecmo Madison talk with others in the car or in the same room. Odds are, you can control the tempo and conversation. I understand that others have different circumstances. But this is always a hard one for me. But regardless for me, a fourth straight visit, five overall, to Tecmo Madison has been confirmed by the significant other herself. #winning #seeyouinmarch

  17. I didn't expect it to take this long for my Madison documentary video, but with the editing out of shenanigans (and there are a lot of shenanigans) it is taking a lot longer than expected. So here it goes, a couple of quick takes from Tecmo X. First and foremost I'd like to apologize for my creepy mustache. God made some people to grow great facial hair (Diazz) and I'm not one of them. As Jon (daboy) said, that stache ain't you man! 2.) Listening to the autobiography of Arnold Schwarzenegger for 10 hours on the way to and from Madison is the best way to pass the time. 3.) Room 134 at the Super 8 smelled like home, you guys are awesome. d.) I don't think the band of brothers (Holtzbauers, Buennagels, Vogts, and Millers) will ever be beat in major tourneys, I hope I'm wrong but I doubt it. 5.) My funniest parts of the trip were when we left #134 and Woodshed told the other 10 guys he hoped they all made the Final 4 tomorrow, then the hotel clerk asked where we were going with the TV and we said it was ours, he just said OK and we went on our merry way. 6.) My favorite part of watching the tourney was yelling "RIVERBOAT IT!" on every 4th down, especially between Matt and Chet. Here is a quick preview of what I have so far, Long Live Tecmo! >http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9EuOCx6B3Q

  18. That’s nice, Gats. I’m not sure how your post is at all relevant to that which was being discussed, but your analysis of my Tecmo ability couldn’t mean less to me. I’ve never claimed to be some God. Heck, I barely even play Tecmo anymore and acknowledged, just a few months ago, that Reg would soon overtake me. Of course, some of you online guys are already complete pricks to him for the same reason (becuz he’s good) even though he’s actually a really nice guy. You’d know that if you spent 5 minutes talking to him in person. It’s nice to win these tourneys, yeah, but I’m not on some conquest for world Tecmo domination here. I attend these tournaments because they are a fun and necessary break from reality, a chance to get the competitive juices flowing, and more importantly, a chance to spend time with my brother and friends. You and others have been taking shots at the competition in these tournaments for years, yet still hypocritically follow the stream all day long. I don’t get it, never will get it, and find it shameful. It's pretty hard to criticize fields that contain the best online players (Reg, Daboy, MV) and the best console players, yet you guys find a way to illegitimize these events and their outcomes. And besides, not everyone is there to win. Remember fun? Only one guy won on Saturday, yet everyone would go back in a heartbeat. You’re pissed for 5-10 minutes after you lose and then realize you’re drinking beer while playing a 23 year-old video game. #perspective Speaking of perspective, it occurs to me that I’ve reached an all-time low here. I’m in a message board dispute with a couple clowns I have no interest in ever associating with. There are clearly better ways for me to spend my time. Chris, I apologize for whatever role I played in derailing this thread. We should be celebrating what was another fantastic event. I hope these tournaments continue long after I leave the Tecmo scene.

    NES TSB Map of Field

I have been asked to create a tutorial on how to edit the NES TSB field. The editing is simple enough once you know the field layout. You can use my endzone editing guide for more detail on how to do the exact editing it is the same as the endzones except there is only one layer of tiles. Here is an explanation about how the field is layed out. Once again, ask any questions you like, I will answer what I am capable of. Remember, if a 44 year old with no computer programming experience, no hex editing experience and no tile editing experience can learn to do this, so can you. You just have to dive in and learn, all the components are here on this website. I have tried to make these tutorials so that even an inexperienced person like myself can understand them so tell me if you are having problems understanding. 20. Just wanted to post this as far in advance of "TecmoXII: There's Something About Barry" as possible. There are a lot of reasons why this will be our last tournament, but mainly it boils down to family and work commitments. We'd rather do it really well one last time than do it halfheartedly for a few more years. We thank all of you for being supporters and/or participants in our tournament over the years. We expect a fair amount of comments, which is why we've created a separate thread for this (in addition to the #TecmoXII thread). Please post any comments/questions regarding the end of the tournament on this thread rather than on the #TecmoXII thread.

  21. Hey Guys -- NEWS MAN here. I want to thank Josh and Chet -- it was great to meet you guys. I am so glad I was able to make it to the last tourney. Thanks for everything you've done over the years to revive and keep alive the game's popularity. It was awesome to see my Buffalo pals again, as well as the others I met at Lou and Mort's tourney. And it was surreal and a pleasure to meet face-to-face a lot of the people I've played online over the last three years. My article with the TSB creators is 99% complete and I'll share a link here as soon as I can in the coming days. The only hold-up is that I'm trying to add more color to it, and there are some serious cultural differences between Americans and Japanese. Questions we don't think twice about, such as concerning each other's personality, come off as very personal to these guys.. but I'm trying to provide more than just a Q and A of the dry facts. They understand and continue to open up more and more but with the time difference, they end up answering my questions overnight and each answer raises another question so the days keep going by..... ANYWAY --- I plan on dropping it in the next day or two here regardless. Just wanted to provide an update for everyone who was aware of this project and looking forward to it.

  23. Congratulations for Joey Gats.... I don't think this could have meant more to anyone else in that room on Saturday. He played spectacular and was the best player as evident by his undefeated record. Mega props to Aaron T as well.... this was the first time since playing Chet 3 years ago I felt like the inferior player in our game. Amazing run and an amazing player; "the Kid' has real talent. Thanks so much to Chet and Josh and the rest of the crew.... my only regret of the day was not being able to have some time to conversate with you guys and make my appreciation known for all you did/do for the tecmo community with this tournament. Hopefully this will portray that feeling. Another great year in Madison. It was great to see so many guys again, meet new guys like invader and dueceloose. My sadness for the last Tecmo Madison is not so much Tecmo related itself, but of the loss for the camaraderie of 256+ guys that have the same hobby in common. It's always a great pleasure and a privilege to participate in this great tournament. Thanks to everyone who showed up and made this possible.

  25. I'm going to break precedent here and reveal that yes, for the 5th year running, Flo was the #1 overall seed. Good luck Group 26! In unrelated news, we're happy to report that there will be an ESPN presence at this tournament. As of now, they're sending only a writer, but hopefully the mothership will course-correct and send a camera crew. Who wouldn't want to see Mort perform cunnilingus on a cartridge again?

    Tecmo Cards

Awhile back I made a handful of TSB football cards and sent them out to players to see if I could get some of them signed. I recently got one back and I thought I'd share. It went against every instinct I have as a Chiefs fan to send a card to a Raider, but Janikowski is one of the best to ever play the game.

  28. Friend just sent me this note, worth sharing: Ready for the most random story ever...so I'm in Europe, taking a train from Rome to Northern Italy and another couple sitting next to us is from Nebraska and we got talking. This is how the conversation went: Me--"ever been to Madison" Him--"one time, 2 years ago" Me--"was it for the football game?" Him--"actually this is going to sound really weird...but it was actually for a Tecmo Super Bowl tournament" Long story short, we spent the remainder of our train riding talking about Mort and QB Bills Even in Europe, Tecmo brings people together

  29. Knobbe, I'm sorry if this post needs to be edited to be appropriate for Tecmobowl.org. But this is what live Tecmo looks like to me. Let me know if ESPN.com calls. "In that moment, at a live tournament, when you've just achieved Tecmo immortality. And there's a hundred people over your shoulder screaming, and cheering you on. You're like a God. At home, while online, in that exact same moment. Your wife is usually just pissed, and rolling her eyes." I'm going to make this recap very personal and very real, and very long. I will try to keep it interesting. What happened at TecmoX will be impossible to re-create for many reasons. Many first time competitors we may never see again, and if we do, it's unlikely we'll see them all at the same time. When will we again get Bruddog, Gats, Kamp, Manyo, and so many others all together at the same time? Looking at that awesome picture will live forever in infamy one clear regret does come to mind. Where the fuck is our champion? All I can assume is that the Tecmo mystique had something to do with this. Perhaps, in avoiding this pic, he avoided the Gods attempt to reap his Tecmo soul. Or maybe he was just falling out of a chair, splashing water on his face, or getting some last minute advice from Mr. Tecmosuperbowl. Whatever the reason. I'm sad Kyle is missing. He is clearly, playing Tecmo in a different picture from the rest of us. OK - So travel. Friday 3/7/14 I leave for Columbus to meet Ryan11p, Tecmo Ninja, and Kevin C at 8am. For Kevin and I this is our 2nd Madison. Ryan and Ninja's first. Mrs. Ninja had a schedule hiccup so Mr. Ninja was over an hour late. Very un-ninja like. But I appreciated the early material for later abuse during our adventure. Kevin C. and I snuck in a couple matchups and I was able to test out Miami/Raiders. This proved very valuable as I ultimately used this matchup to limp my way into the Sweet 16. Thanks Kevin! We took turns driving Ryan11p's Dodge Nitro while he and Tecmo Ninja argued Tecmosis like an old married couple. We recorded some interviews and continued to talk shop. Arrival at Super 8. I'm mostly excited to meet my online brothafromanothamotha Kamphuna. However, he's getting in late but his roomie Manyo was already posted up in #134 with Gats, Coconuts, Jim Socks, Woodshed, Lou, Mort and several others. Meeting Joey Gats was so freaking cool. He was very quiet, gracious, and extremely polite. We hang for a minute then go to our room #309. Just a couple doors down from the Vogts at #315. We head to Badger Bowl with Gats for early check-in, drinks, games, and bull-shitting. The place looked great just like last year. The people at Badger Bowl are always so cool and accommodating. When I checked in I accidentally tried to check-in under the name Diaz, instead of Swayze. Atmosphere was loose and everyone was having fun meeting each other. I saw Trevor O. from my group last year. We had some laughs about me working him last year and so we played some more. He joked about how bad I own him, which I do. But he made a great run in the tourney. Good player, great guy. Gats played Chet tough. He looked poised for a big following day. I don't remember much else. We head back to Super 8 to get ready to prep. Kamp had text me so I knocked on #134, Kamp answered, and we immediately hugged. It was totally homo. NTTAWWT. Most of the OGP (Online Garbage Players) were having a little trouble with timing kickoffs and FG's. Many kicks were not reaching the endzone and most FG's were sailing North. Good thing OGP's always go for it on 4th down. Hashtag 134. I'm not smart enough to churn out the numbers but the "feelsies" of it is that if you were OGP, Super 8, Midwest, and/or named Matt you were poised for a monster tournament day. I went 8-1 in practice games on Friday night, finally falling to Kamphuna. It was cool to bullshit with everybody but we didn't do our real bonding until business was over the next day. On tournament day I felt okay. A little tired but I scraped together 4 hours of sleep which was plenty. We show up at Badger Bowl and the mood was very different. We were tired but there were definite nerves in the air. The Madison Crew did an amazing job of handling the crowd and making everyone feel welcome. We went over some rules and watched some LT footage. Gotta admit, I was pretty pumped up after watching all the crack-induced LT tackles. At this moment I realized I was the #1 seed in my group 13 and would be playing first. I played Bob Gee (I think) and routed him 42-0 TB over Jets. The #2 in my group James fell early so I was salivating at the idea of getting some great point differential and a nice big bracket seed. But in my second game I called Miami Detroit and won with the Lions only 27-14. In the championship group play game Justin called SD/Rams. I take the RAMS. Everett throws 3 INT's and misses on 3 pretty easy TD passes. This whole game made no sense and this matchup will be expertly practiced before my next tourney. We both chatted later and both knew he shouldn't have beaten me. But he totally beat me and I was legitimately happy for him. I lost 14-24 and have lost in Madison to only people named Justin. I move over to the loser's bracket and Gil calls... SD/Rams. SAME EXACT MATCHUP. I was impressed by the strategy. He claimed to not realize. But wow! Anyway, I took the Rams again. And again I struggled. Luckily, I'm obnoxious on D and I win the game 14-0 to advance and earn myself a 12 seed in the big bracket. I play #5 seed Matt B. (Heechy) in the round of 64. We played at Ohio V group play where I won but I picked the matchup. Here he picks PHX/PIT and we grind it out. This game was stupid. I felt outplayed the whole time but the Steeler D kept bailing me out. I absolutely claw my way to a 3-0 nothing win, and back to back shutouts. I had 77 yards of total pathetic offense. If I remember right my FG was after a fumble and his FG attempt was missed. Me, an OGP makes a FG!!! Looking back on Ohio V that group had Me, Lefty, Rico, and Heechy. No wonder my tournament record leave's much to be desired. Wait... who's Lefty? Round of 32. Guess who? It's Rico. I really like Rico. He's fun to bullshit with but you also know he's there for business. I called Miami/Raiders after testing it with Kevin while waiting for Ninja to ever show up. He complimented the matchup pick. At this stage in the game you can't really believe anything that is said or happens. But he said he's not great with either team and would like to defer. He moves to take P1 then also says he'll take the Raiders. I said that's cool and reminded him that I'd be taking P1, since he didn't really defer. I respected the attempt to take what he could get. But I think he forgot it wasn't group play anymore. Rico takes P2 and Bo Jackson and runs for over 350 yards on me. He played really well and was dominant on offense. I got a gift turnover early which put me ahead and we went back and forth. I score late in the 4th to go up. But with about 90 seconds left Bo breaks free and he's brought down inside the Miami 20. If it were a season game I'm certain he would've broken his hip. Rico's run/pass ratio was 9:1 in this game. I think he took 3 cracks at it and I picked run, run, pass. I believe I contained the first run, picked the second run, then picked pass and played centerfield. I was ready to out tap Bo and was really scared Bo was about to walk in the endzone. Rico also picked pass and was able to cover well enough to break rhythm and bring him down on a scramble to advance 24-17. I sneak by in another and advance to the Sweet 16. Good thing I'm OGP so I knew to pick pass after defending on 27 run plays. I've been outgained in both games. Three Matt's represented the Dom in the Sweet 16. Toolie and Vogt went head to head and I got Chet because of my group play loss to Justin (thanks Justin!). Well, that loss and Chet's win of the wimpy coin toss sealed my fate. He picked Rams/Cincy and I chose Cincy because of my previous struggles with the Rams that day. He skips the kickoff screen (completely legal) and is kicking off to me immediately. From the get go I know I can't move the ball and wished I had L-O-ellard to "Back and B" to. I punt, Rams fumble. Here's where the punt coverage picks up the punt and runs it in for a touchdown, right? Wrong. The lazy Cincy drones and the Rams just kick at it for awhile until it rolls out of bounds. The Chet magic is there and for me to beat him in this matchup, I really would need two, probably three big breaks. They didn't come. Chet very skillfully cut me up while I was primarily Fulcher on D. I showed resistance, but he was methodical and would cut when given the opening. On his other sequences I would occasionally mix in Francis. When the opportunity was there Chet would give Ellard a deep look and it was successful. He added two extra JJ touchdowns perfectly timed. A couple times I had him backed up and he timed Shotgun to Flipper for diving CC's each time. He swiftly knocked me down 21-10. Chet is the total package and it's no surprise he's had so much success. He can tap (almost) like Reg, has the patience of Toolie, the knowledge of Mort, and Orenga-esque timing. Playing him fucking sucks! I'm twice his size and could snap him in half, but I was the one intimidated. It was still very fun! And at least I can say I lost to Chet. At this point I disappeared for awhile and thought about what could've been if I could've selected the matchup. I thought about if I hadn't lost in group play, or if I'd had a better seed, or if I was in a different region. Then I realized I just tied for 9th out of 256 people. So, I called my wife to share the awesome news! And I spent the rest of the time getting pictures and swapping all the dream crushing stories with my Tecmo brethren. Soon, I look up at the big screen for the finals and see that Kyle is at P1 which means he picked the matchup. After a lucky garbage win over Chet's Dolphin matchup he was ready for his first Madison victory. I see Den/SD up on the screen and a sober Regulator. Even with Chet's skill and everything that makes him great this matchup can't work for him. Not against Reg. Ironically, Den/SD seemed to be the matchup of the day. It was surprising to see it still available for Kyle just like Chi/KC was available for Chet against BigMV. Looks like they were all saving them for each other. That's why they're the best. Josh was hilarious at closing ceremony and made mention of a well deserved win for Kyle. It was awesome and Chet was visibly very happy for Kyle. Which is what makes our community so fucking cool and the best there is, period. But then there's the Player's Party... But for me, that doesn't happen for about another two hours. Somewhere along the line Tecmo Ninja picked up a stray, Hankdewild. Hankers was pretty much in the bag... No wait, back that up. Hank was drunktarded and we needed to get him back to his friends house. No way he could drive. So Ninja drives me, Kevin, Ryan, and HanktheTank out near the Oscar Meyer Wiener Factory. I mean, after a day of homophobic innuendo... where the fuck else would we be? The Wiener Factory, I'm crying. We get to Hank's friends house and he's not home. Information, that would've been helpful a half hour previously. Hank apologies, slurs his words and appeared even more drunktarded. I'm frustrated because I want to get to the Player's Party, not watch Hank slip around on some icy driveway by the wiener factory. We take hank to Super 8 where he'll hopefully be picked up quickly. Ninja and Ryan stay back to rest and babysit. Ryan graciously trusts Kevin and I to take his Nitro out on the town. We were of course very cautious of this kind gesture and didn't do anything stupid. Kevin and I leave. The Plaza. Madison Crew: Thanks so much for hosting. You guys are awesome and I hope more than anything I'm back in Wisconsin in March of 2015. #CliftonHanger OGP: You guys are the best you bunch of online garbage pieces of ... well, trash. You have no skill and you're all a bunch assholes. You know who you are. LATE NIGHT PLAZA. The Men have now been separated from the boys. All the men, have responsibly either started traveling home to their families. Or are resting somewhere getting ready for their long journey home tomorrow. Then there are the boys... Me, Kevin C., Manyo, Coconuts, Moulds, Mort, Louis, Knobbe, Bru, Nate B., O'Dell, Toolie, and of course Dave. I'm sorry if I forget someone. #shots All I remember is Manyo and Coco talking shit about approaching some girls. It was awesome! I felt like I was in high school again knowing that they were full of shit and it would never happen. It never happened. HOWEVER, a pretty pretty-girl does walk up to Manyo. It was late. Louis was passed out on the table and we had formed a semi-circle to block his view from the bar. So we wouldn't get kicked out. Louis was pretty hanked out of his mind. We were strategizing how to get Louis back to the Super 8 when this girl tells Manyo that he looks exactly like Blue Luigi. Random gamer reference from stranger #1. I'm fucking crying. We're all fucking crying. Then she looks at his 8-bit Seahawk helmet jersey and says: "What the fuck? Who are you? Why are you a Blue Luigi AND you have a pixilated helmet on your shirt?"(Or something like that.) BAM! Random gamer reference from stranger #2. At this point I intervene and ask her who she is. And how she knows what Blue Luigi and pixilated is? Chicks don't talk like that. Turns out her boyfriend owns an arcade in town. Instantly he appears! Of course, because his GF is talking to a creepy Blue Luigi. It's late AF. Her BF was super cool and was also very Ken Doll-esque. Especially for 2am, or 3am, or whatever was happening. His hair was perfect. It was very Raguse. We talked Tecmo and shared some laughs and I did a good job distracting him while Manyo continued hitting on his girlfriend. Thanks Manyo for wrapping that up so quickly. That wasn't weird at all! Dick. CONSIDERING THAT: 1. THE BOYFRIEND OWNED AN ARCADE 2. WE JUST PLAYED AN 8-BIT VIDEO GAME TOURNAMENT 3. EVERYONE WAS HAMMERED 4. AND MANYO LOOKED LIKE A BLUE LUIGI I WAS CONVINCED WE WERE ABOUT TO FIND OURSELVES IN SOME CRAZY VIDEO GAME CUCKOLD ROLE PLAY INVITE THAT WOULD INVOLVE SOME SORT OF S&M BOWSER, DECKED OUT IN ALL LEATHER. IF VING RHAMES AND LAWRENCE TAYLOR WOULD'VE WALKED IN WE WOULD'VE BEEN GONE. So we left. Kevin and I started to go get the car so we could carry Louis a short distance instead of two blocks. We walk outside and Mort is just waiting like some kind of God. There was a beam of light from the heavens just showering down on his beautiful face. It was amazing. Louis, who hadn't moved in about two hours somehow Jeditexted Mort to pick him up. I don't think it happened. I think that's what Mort told me so I wouldn't figure out that he's actually Jesus Christ. At Tecmo Madison, even Jesus Christ gets knocked out in the round of 64, once in awhile. Mort comes in, I keep my distance from 8-Bit Bukkake, Blue Luigi, and the Cuckolds. Mort yells at Louis which was hilarious. Following, I did imitations of it all night at Perkins. We say our goodbyes and bounce ... Me, Kevin, Coco, and Blue Fucking Luigi. We try to hit Taco Bell but the evil Madison medians keep me from finding an appropriate left. We decide on Perkins along with 150 other people at 3am. We order, nothing happens, I'm still waiting for my fucking food. This was a common theme even at Badger Bowl. I digress. Blue Luigi nearly misses his cab which is going to drive him so he can nearly miss his flight. I'm not sure how a guy who looks like an 8-bit terrorist can even get thru TSA in under 6 hours. AND THAT'S COMING FROM ME!!! We finally leave Perkins and I make mention that if hankthetank is in my bed when we get back to Super 8 that I'll be going to prison for a very long time. Or delivering him to the Bukkake Arcade back near The Plaza. I cling on to a couple hours of sleep and we drive back with Ninja and Ryan. They slept a lot that night during the shenanigans so Ryan was solid and he drove the whole way home. That's my boy!! Ryan and Tecmo Ninja argued Tecmosis like an old married couple almost the whole way back, again. It was very similar to playing Chet. I learned some stuff but mostly was just miserable and wanted it to be over. This community fucking rules. We're friendly, hospitable, charitable, ball-busting, loving, hating, whatever. It's very close to a family. We are dysfunctional and we care about each other we haven't seen in years. Or possibly even met. These people I consider my good friends. Many, I'll be friends with for a very long time. Unless I have to ride in the car with them. Then fuck those guys. =) Seriously, if you are my Tecmo brethren and especially if we shared time at TecmoX. I think you're the tits and thanks for making Tecmo so awesome in all your individual ways. If we missed each other please find me next year. Gats, welcome to the Force. You've now seen the light. Moulds, Kamp, Diaz, Coconuts, Psycho, Manyo, Dotdon, Leonardite's head. TL; DR: Live tournaments and the Tecmo Brotherhood is the shit.

  30. George aka the People's Champ- My intro to this dude was him coming up to me and Lou barely holding onto THREE mixed drinks in shoddy plastic cups without any segue telling us "HEY, I saw a BITCH that looked like MARINO." It didn't take much longer for me and Lou to realize a new Madison Legend had been born. I didn't realize he was in my group until my first game is underway and I'm taking the kickoff back with Barry Sanders and I hear a familiar voice behind me exclaim "HEY! WHERE'S MEL GRAY!? You can't put BARRY at kick return man... you're gonna USE UP HIS JUICE!!" I'll never forget that voice. I'll never forget this tourney!

  31. It's difficult to even begin to describe how much fun I had at my first ever Tecmo Madison tournament. A huge thanks to all of those involved! Without a doubt, my absolute favorite thing about any live Tecmo tourney is that pretty much every single competitor is there to have fun and is a good sport no matter the outcome. This makes for a full day of nothing but smiles and pure fun. This picture pretty much sums it up - I was playing against JimSocks for the last spot in the field of 64 and the pic was snapped as I hit a FG off the post and in for a 3 point win in DOUBLE OVERTIME! Take a look at JimSock's face - BIG OL' SMILE!! It isn't possible for someone to be a better sport than Jim right there. That's live Tecmo at its best. Jim you and your crew were fantastic the entire time. Thanks for helping remind me just how much fun playing this game live can be!

  34. Just like last year, I compared the brackets of the last few years' tourneys side by side, looking for milestones and trends. Here are some noteworthy nuggets: 1) Just the same as last year, only two Elite 8 players from #TecmoX made the Elite 8 at #TecmoXI - Coconuts and Skunker. That is quite an achievement for those two. In the double-elim Elite 8 era, only two other players have reached back-to-back Elite 8s: some dudes named Regulator and Chet. 2) #TecmoXI showed no mercy towards former champs. Two champs (Regulator, Sobhi) didn't make the trip (one because of poor family planning, the other had a place of honor in the Tecmo graveyard). Of the remaining 6, two failed to advance out of group play (Jimmy B, Buzzsaw), two were knocked out in the Rd of 64 (Mort, Peter K), one was knocked out in the Sweet 16 (Chet). Only one made the Elite 8: Beach. That's the fewest former champions to make the Elite 8 since #TecmoVI. 3) Local players continued to do well, with 3 Madison players in the Elite 8 (Orenga, Beach, Skunker) 4) Most consecutive Sweet 16s: Chet (5), Beach (3), O'Toole (2), Diaz (2), Skunker (2), Orenga (2), Coconuts (2), and O'Dell (2). Both Regulator and Arncoem had streaks of 3 going into #TecmoXI, but weren't able to attend. 5) By going winless this year, Joe J. (DirtyWaters) held his crown for most tournament losses in our history. He's up to 22 now. On the plus side, he does have 16 wins. 6) Anniversaries: The following players celebrated their 10th year TM anniversary at #TecmoXI: Joe J, Durch (the COD), Johnny Tecmo, Flo, and the Rikster. The following players celebrated their 9th year TM anniversary at #TecmoXI: Jess, Adam G (Garbage), Peter K (moonwalk), and James T (skunker). Congratulations to all of you guys, and thank you for helping shape the tournament over the years into what it is today! For instance: Joe J had the idea for us to switch to Group Play in Tecmo III Peter K came up with the beautiful coin flip solution between Tecmos V and VI. Adam Garbage is one of 5 people who were at the original Madison Tecmo tournament who still attend, and the only person to ever shut off a game with the game-winning FG in the air No one plays more exciting/booze-drenched group play games than Flo and the COD Jess has been a pioneer in the costume category, and took home prize at #TecmoIX. He's also a very tough out every year. Over the last decade, Rik has remained the beacon of common sense for the tournament. 7) Accolades: Most Final Fours: Skunker (4), Sobhi (4), Chet (3), Beach (3), Regulator (3) Most Elite 8s without a final 4 appearance: Rico (2), O'Dell (2), Orenga (2), Chris V (2), Garbage (2) The following players crossed the 40-win threshold this year: Peter K (moonwalk) The following players crossed the 30-win threshold this year: Orenga, Flo, O'Toole, O'Dell, Rico 8 ) Who's the best to never win it? There's no easy answer here, but judging only by past Madison performances, the top 3 candidates appear to be: Skunker. Certainly the most accomplished #TecmoMadison player without a championship. Tied with Sobhi for most Final Fours (4), and finisher in the Top 4 the last two years. One win away from joining the 50-win club with the tournament organizers. Daboy. Has finished in Top 4 two of the last three years. Matt O (Toolie). Highest Win% of any player without a championship. After finishing runner-up in #TecmoVI, he's made the Sweet 16 in 3 of the 5 subsequent tournaments. He just hasn't been able to break through to the Elite 8 and the double-elim cushion it provides. There are certainly a lot of other players to consider: Coconuts, Matty V, Jeff B, Sconnie, O'Dell, etc., but I think the three players above have demonstrated both strong consistency over several years, and the ability to wreak havoc in the Final Four. Then again, maybe Bruddog's soon-to-come power rankings tell another story? Will be an interesting read, for sure. That being said, Derek had never advanced beyond the Sweet 16 prior to this year's tournament, and he won the whole thing! He just played lights out, and was the best player in the room that day. Congratulations one last time to our #TecmoXI champion, Derek R (TecmoPsycho).

  36. None of these are the official seeds. I used an SRS (Simple rating System http://www.pro-football-reference.com/blog/?p=37) method to come up with a power list from tecmo tourney's 8-10. Then based on that and my own subjectivity/personal biases I came up with these seeds #1 SEEDS Chet H. (holzy11) Jon J (daboy) James T (Skunker) Matt V (Bigmv) The heavy hitters. Chet is the odds on favorite with no Regulator and is the #1 overall seed. by quite a large margin. The difference between chet and another #1 seed is the same as the difference between a #1 and a #6 seed. Daboys might be one of the best to have not won so I'm looking for a deep run from him this year. He had chet on the ropes in Tecmo 9 and was about 14 minutes fromt he finals when chet returned a kick for a TD right before half that swung the momentum in the game. Matty V like DAboys was one win away from a finals appearance taking down skunker in an EPIC battle before falling to Chet. No shame in that and he's posied for another deep run #2 SEEDS Jeff B. Peter K. (moonwalk) Troy H. (PrimeTime) joeygats Jeff B has wins over mort and daboy in his tecmo resume but faltered in the round of 32 last year as Odelle bested him by 14 in HOU v GIA matchup. It's been a couple tourney's for moonwalk but he had wins over Bontempo and Louis only to fall to Regulator... like most everyone not named Chet have. Troy H had a solid win over Adam (Garbage) in Tecmo X but also fell to the Tecmo wrecking ball Regulator last year. in the round of 32. Gats was cruising along last year in pool play and played Regulator and Chet tough in some practice games. Hwoever a controller malfunction helped to contribute to a first round exit. A winner of multiple online titles gats wants to get last years bad taste out of his mouth and make a finals run. #3 SEEDS Francis B. (mort) Jim B. (Air Bontempo) Josh A. (Coconuts) Matt D. (Mattrick Swayze) Mort going down in the round of 64 was one of last year's stunning surprises. The former champ narrowly lost to an unknown in the round of 64 and struggled in kumite. Can the Mort magic return? Two time champ and always dangerous Bontempo made another deep run last year besting sonofpatbeach and chris vogt before losing to who else...Regulator. My tourney run ended last year to Coconuts in matchup call I wish I could have back. Coco would beat orenga and posse before falling to two of the #1 seeds Skunker and MV in the final 8 double elim. Diaz rounds out the 3 seeds thanks to a deep Kumite run before falling to Regulator and a deep run in Texmo X before falling to chet. Had a hard time with seeds 4-8 as I feel they are fairly interchangeable. #4 SEEDS Seth B. (Virtuoso) - Last tourney was Tecmo IX where he lost to Mort Matt M. (Ones11fahzu) - Known as REg's bro. Has made some deep runs and is famous for his slow down style Erik J. (rikfenny) - Homegrown and long time attendee with wins over sconnie and vikingMoe in Tecmo X Josh H. (sonofpatbeach) - Co founder and former champion beat daboy but lost to Bontempo in the round of 16 in Tecmo X #5 SEEDS Eric O. (tecmodell42) - The cause of Regulators (X beers deep) only loss between Tecmo X and Kumite Eric G. (VikingMoe) - New to Tecmo X last year made it to the round of 32 before falling to arncoem Dave B. (bruddog) - Finally makes the madison trip last year but falls in a tight game to final 8 represnetative Coco Derek R. (tecmopsycho) - One of the top tappers but even better tapper chet ended his run last year #6 SEEDS Rico R. (ryanr33fulcher) - Went out in theRd of 64 in Tecmo IX and went tou in the round of 32 to Diaz in Texmo X Adam G. (Garbage) - One of the fastest tappers around with two round of 64 exits the past two tourneys Matt O. (LuckyTool) - A former repeat HSTL champion lost to Mv in the round of 64 Chris V. (vogtcd11) - Vogt bro number 2. Trying to repeat last years final 8 run before falling to Bontempo and odelle #7 SEEDS Tony O. (AverageTSBPlayer) - Owner of the biggest home field advantage at Madison. Run ended with losses to Mort (IX) and coco(X) Jimmy V. (lillefty) - Vogt bro #3 is looking to shake the rust off after an early round exit in Tecmo VII after dominating round robin. Kevin M. (buzzsaw) - Big wins came back in Tecmo VII. Got punded by REg in Tecmo IX and didnt make it out of round robin last year. Luke C. (Luke C.) - My first practice game on Friday of last year. Solid competitor. Losses to daboy R32 in IX and Vikingmoe R64 #8 SEEDS Louis B. (red98sethuthut) - Mort's bro Louis who seems to play better live had his run end vs Chris Vogt in the round of 16. Isaac W. (disastamasta142) - 4 time Ari. tourney champ and runner up to myself in the L.A tourney is primed for his first madison appearance Nick G. (Gio) - Gio gave me all I could handle in my round robin matchup. With a year of online tecmo under his belt and his tough defense he will be a hard out Ryan S. (Ryan11p) - Ryan stepped up his game big time last tourney before falling hard to Arncoem. Rounding out the top 16 #9 SEEDS Adam K. (AEK) AJ B. (adversity) Matt B. (heechy) Chase M. #10 SEEDS Gil P. (gnpiii) James K. (player121xk) Trevor O. (Trozier) Jonathan B. (QB_Browns) #11 SEEDS Justin G. (Lamefest) ira m. (gameboy) Todd D. (imimmortl) Matt K. (Rod Woodson) #12 SEEDS Justin O. Ryan K. (Hoigaard) GARY M. (SEXY LOVES SANDWICHES) Jimmy P. (Jim Socks) #13 SEEDS Nathan L. (Nate) Eric D. (Ding) Barry A. (Bob Nelson) Tom B. (8-bit) #14 SEEDS Kris S. (Sammie Smith) Joseph M. (manyo360) Peter B. (Gridiron) Bo J. (TecmoBo) #15 SEEDS Nathan M. (Retro4Ever) Justin N. (The Shark) Andrew H. (Don) Joey S. (Dr. Frolf) #16 SEEDS Justin L. (Fargo10) Joe J. (Dirty Waters) Devin O. 38. Had this banner waiting on me when I got home. I have a true lady of Tecmo. I had so much fun this weekend and to win one of these was incredible. I was a little salty that they didn’t have a police escort for me as I rolled into my hometown with the trophy, but I think I might get a sign underneath the 2009 boys basketball state champions, so I’ve got that going for me. Big thanks to everyone involved, and the love from the Tecmo community after this was phenomenal. Something I’ll never forget. You guys are the best. Can’t wait to spend another day drinking and playing this game with you guys. It’ll never get old.

  40. Fantastic weekend in Detroit; thanks mainly to a lot of hard work from O'Dell, with myself and a few others playing supporting cast, we were able to pull off a very fun event. Bringing it back downtown, specifically to the Detroit Beer Co., was a good move. We had a very nice space (the third floor of the joint to ourselves) and enough equipment / tech to keep things moving and people in the loop. Facilities could not have been better. As far as my day: I played OK during preliminary rounds, but nothing to hint that I might walk away the winner. My first game I lost to Moskwa 21-10 (14-10 with a fumble TD on a last play punt), then bounced back with a 21-0 win over a fellow from Cleveland and a 14-7 win over Jaimen Allison (thanks to the Allison Bros. for making it from Ontario) where I had to hang on late. Then I got smoked by Louis and finished with a pretty comfortable win over Ryan McKay (who called kind an outside the box matchup in NO/DAL). If I had lost that last game I would not have finished in the top 16. Winning that game got me up to #7 overall. This is where things broke my way. I got a pretty good draw as the #7, as the #2 was a local player who found us on Craig's List and showed up to our pre-Kumite event and had a 4-1 day beating Diaz soundly, Rico closely, and then getting waxed by Coco. Jaimen as my first opponent was no pushover, and Rico or Hendershot were the known guys I could face in the semis. The other half of the bracket was more stacked, IMO. Then the unthinkable happened and the Raiders fell to me as six teams were chosen ahead of them (SF, BUF, GIA banned to begin with). I think the order was HOU-WAS-KC-CHI-PHI-MIA-RAI. Plus the local guy took the Skins, so if I could get past Jaimen I'd at worst be playing against WAS. From here the games were not incredibly memorable. I got up big on Jaimen (CIN) with some stops and big plays. Round 2 I faced Nick D. with his Skins and won 24-7. Against Rico (KC) I got a stop right away and then built a 10 point lead. He kicked a FG with about 2:30 to go and got me to punt, but I was able to get an interception and took a safety to hang on 17-12. This game was the closest I played in single elimination. In the championship, I won the toss and took P1, Diaz took the Vikings. Had we not done the pre-determined final match-up of MIN-DET we would have played CHI-RAI, so still a very even game. We traded stops to open, then I got a TD, a stop, and hit a FG before the half. The second half opened with a sack-fumble-TD to all but seal the deal. Diaz got a TD at the end of the 3rd quarter to make it 20-7, but then a strange play happened. I broke a long run with Barry where his defender appeared to get chop blocked by the WR, but neither of us thought he touched one of my guys. When watching the playback the stream messes up there, so it must have been some "Contact"-esque alien intervention. Shortly after I punched it in. It was funny, because I was handling a lot of the mic duties all day and had been ribbing Diaz over the P.A., so it was funny we had to play in the final. Watching the stream games with the chat replay is hilarious. People made fun of my "tap face" (the face I make while tapping), which is ridiculous. I think everyone should have a candid shot of their tap face posted to the site. <-------------- dude, you're not going to win; you may as well stop making that face... The event on the whole was a blast. O'Dell put together a really sweet raffle portion that sent a lot of people home with some goodies. Thanks to Dave Murray for hooking us up with some Retron systems that allowed us to add a couple of stations. The venue and all their staff were lights out and we didn't get squeezed by ravenous Pistons fans this year. They had great setups for audio and visual and a nice WIFI connection for the stream. If we can have next year's tournament in the same place I'll be thrilled. Many thanks to all that made it out and those who watched on the stream (I hope you make tap face for your next drivers license photo). One month to go until Madison, the ultimate Tecmo party.

  42. Well. Another Midwest Tecmo in the books. I'll be giving the weekend rundown from my perspective. Ended up finishing the route early on Friday night in order for my wife and I to help out at our parish festival for a couple hours before we dove into the Tecmo festivities. TecmoPsycho made his way to my house during that. Left the festival around 8:45 p.m. and Psycho was literally minutes behind. Hooked up 2 stations in the living room. Expected others to come. Psycho and I played numerous games. Lefty and Moskwa (Detroit) ended up coming over for some games as well. Moskwa had to adjust to Lefty's horrible attempts at smacktalk. By the week's end, Moskwa and Lefty were immense buddies. Played until around 2:30 a.m. Didn't remember going to bed. Wife wakes me up at 7:55 a.m.; had my alarm set for 6 a.m. Yikes. Rick's Tavern expected us at 8 p.m., but we got there at roughly 8:30 a.m. This year's setup was probably the quickest and easiest. TecmoPsycho, Lefty, 513boy, Fullam and plenty of others took control of the game play stations. I manned the setup for live stream. Not one single drop in the connection this year on the stream, as I hardwired it to their router which was a comfortable 4 feet away under one of the server stations. My wife, my daughter, my mom, my wife's friend Kim, BigMV's wife -- they all helped the last 4 years) arrived to help put together Yuengling goodies bags for the registration table and eventually accept registration. The bags consisted of t-shirts, Keychains, a pack of 1991 football cards, and some other items. Registration lasted until 10:30 a.m. I configured the pool play groups according to preregistration. Not one no-show. And we had an additional show up. Four alternates were available to fill in pool play groups of 5. We had 45 players, for 9 groups. 10 TV's were set up. The live stream TV didn't have a specific group assigned to it. As we were able to spread out the No. 1 and No. 2 seeded pool play games accordingly on the stream. Ashley, BigMV's wife, and Kim began accepted money for raffle tickets. $1 per ticket. $5 for 6 tickets. Yuengling supplied a golf bag, a neon, hockey stick picture frame, a mug case, 30 t-shirts, a parking sign, a winter coat, and much more. BigMV donated his signed Fulcher jersey from the 2013 tourney to be raffled off. 4 Reds tickets also donated. Kevin Cabarello and Fullam each donated a tshirt to be raffled off. We ended up raising $400, putting Midwest at over $3,000 raised for the Fulcher Foundation since 2008. Practice games still took place as I panned out the final prep to begin pool play. Introduction to the tourney took place at 10:40 a.m. and play began. Fulcher showed up roughly a half an hour later. He accepted the head football coaching position at Cincinnati Christian University and this is the team inaugural season. 110 players were reporting to campus on this day. So we were fortunate to even have him with us for a portion of the day. Fulcher spoke when he arrived. Always enjoy his presence. He also donated a signed jersey for the winner. Pool play saw some of the best games I've ever witnessed: A fill-in, Kenny Brunner, also my best friend, battled it out with John R. in a 4 overtime game. John won 23-17 on a Marino touchdown pass. ... Louis B., Arncoem, BigMV and Regulator went 4-0 in pool play. ... 4 groups saw three 3-1 players in each. ... BigMV received the overall No. 1 seed. ... Every No. 1 seed in each group either finished 4-0 or went 3-1 to claim all or a portion of the group's top spot. ... There was contemplation on someone picking AFC-NFC in pool play. Those teams are not on the list of teams MW posts with its printout of rules. The idea was quickly dropped by tournament organizers. Bracket play: All 45 participants entered the single elimination tournament. ... Elite 8 was double elimination. ... MV was ousted in round of 32 against Kyle K, the brother of Eric K, who won this year's satellite. ... I beat Arncoem in Sweet 16 to advance to Elite 8. Arncoem knocked me out of 3 other Midwest tournies. ... Ones11fahzu lost to Jordan W. in the round of 32. ... Fullam a fill-in and decent Tecmoer to boot, downed a sloppy drunk Regulator in Sweet 16. Fullam planned on leaving at 4 p.m. ... He was forced to stay until around 7:30 to claim fourth place and $50. ... TecmoPsycho was downed by Diaz in the final three matchup. TecmoPsycho won the third place trophy along with $100. ... JimSocks filtered his way through Jason S. (Wisconsin), Joey V, Arncoem, his best bud Jordan W, and Psycho to reach Diaz in the overall finals. ... Diaz had to beat Socks twice. ... Diaz lost to Psycho in Final four of winners, before beating Chris V, Fullam and then Psycho in the double elimination losers bracket. ... Diaz does the unthinkable. ... JimSocks took home second place and $200. ... Diaz grabs the title and $400. Clean up wasn't all that bad. We got out of Rick's Tavern around 10 p.m. ... As I'm getting in my car, the owner of Rick's chases me down and asks me when we would like to schedule #MWTecmoX. ... I told him we would meet up and talk, and plan on marketing the tourney together. Hoping to blow it out of the park next year. ... Nicki, our server last year, had a long day again this year. Thinking that with 100-plus people off and on watching/playing, I'm figuring she was well to do in the end. My tab was roughly $100. Summer Shandy was my choice this year. Along with 5 bloody Mary's to start the day. My wife, who is always patient on this day every year, asked her niece to watch our kids after the tourney. Her niece said yes. Psycho, BigMV, myself, Mv's wife, Lefty and few others met at McKinley's Pub, the satellite MW tournament site, at around 11 p.m. ... We left to go to a clubbish type bar called Cobblestone to enjoy a louder evening. ... We closed it down. ... Psycho, my wife and I swung by Taco bell at 3 a.m., went home and ate it. We talked until about 4 a.m. Went to bed around 4:15 a.m. Set my alarm for 6:30 a.m. because I had to get up and deliver Amazon packages on Sunday at 7:30 a.m. ... I didn't wake up until 7:50 a.m. The wife had to wake me up. ... I hated life for the next 6 hours. The help from many people during Midwest Tecmo weekend does not go unnoticed. Plenty of things have to happen in order to make sure players do not see any glitches. It was a perfect weekend. Thank you all. We will announce the date for MWTecmoX at the start of the new year. ... Again, Tecmo still continues to intrigue me every tournament. The thing I took away from this weekend: Many Tecmoers at Midwest were talking about how you really shouldn't use the word "upset" any more. I agree. Just describe how you won, or how you lost. We will get it. There are no more upsets. There are no more guarantees. This is Nintendo football's chess match. Set yourself up. Don't make mistakes. The End *Photos and results to be posted soon.*

  44. Made a quick video from the few minutes of footage I got this year. Sorry it took so long, just been pretty busy. Thanks again to not only Josh, Chet, and the whole Madison crew but the entire Tecmo community as well. “It was a train full of strangers, and they were all the same.”

  45. Thanks to everyone for joined us this year, either at Badger Bowl in Madison, or on the stream. Congrats to our Elite 8 finishers: 1. Joeygats 2. Aaron T. (The Kid) 3. Rikster 4. Kyle N. (thegamer1185) -- Noonan's half brother T-5th: Josh H. (sonofpatbeach), Matt D (MattyD) T-7th: Mort, Flo It was a crazy one. None of the 4 top-seeded players (Regulator, Chet, Coconuts, Psycho) made the Elite 8, and only one (Coconuts) made the Sweet 16. Here is a link to the quick and dirty results: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10H152Fs8ipN0PFkk0sJHGqWzvyIzNEff-rcydN-VSRo/edit?usp=sharing. Also, here's a link to some photos from the tournament (not a permanent link): http://1drv.ms/1QuKQjo Within the next few weeks, we will get something more polished up on our site.

  46. +1 Allow me to elaborate. We do our best, guys. There are a lot of tournaments. We can't upload them all. We have to use our judgment on which tournaments we enter, based on our experience with those tournaments, the number of players, the talent of the field, and expected crossover between the players in that field and the players in our field. As Dave mentioned, even if documented really well (which many are not) and sent to us promptly (which many are not), it's not easy to enter them into our site. It takes time. We're all busy people, so we don't get to them all. We prioritize. We know who did well in all of the tournaments this year (like, say, Nebraska), and we'll try to take that into account with seeding, to the degree it's feasible. The person who wins #TecmoXII will not win it because of how he was seeded. He'll win it because he was the best player in the room that day, as Derek was last year.

  47. Tecmo XI! Here is my highlight reel: Josh + Chet, Bailey, the crew & the ladies of Tecmo. (Definitely NOT Tony. He's garbage.) The overall crowd at the event. So loud! The Psych Ward flexing and posing like WWF Superstars during the finals Ruble winning it all!! (I love this guy.) Watching Joey Vogt seal his Round of 64 placement. LOL @ everyone screaming in that dude's face. ND crew sneaking me shots through proxy buyers. Lou bringing out major Lou face at the player's party. Hanging with Bruddog, Knobbe and Gats a lot. Knobbe & QB Browns on the mic! Badger Bowl internet after 5 hours of it sucking. Came through big at the end. Phew. Tony. Jk man. I like you. Sort of. Chet at The Plaza. Dude was wrecked. Ryan S & Kevin C opening up the stream. There is a hilarious moment where I just start shaking my head. Ryan S likes to talk IMMEDIATELY! Twitch Chat. You guys had me lol'ing a lot. Beef Juice getting trolled by the jukebox. Vikingmoe's JJ win. My goodbye hug with Diaz. TecmoAZ helping with tech issues and modding chat. Watching Gats vs the Orenga Posse. The feels in my ear drums when Tecmo Burning Mort 2016 was described to me. Joe M. bringing a hot date from Detroit. Get on his level. Sharing a beer with JimSocks & Woodshed. Good dudes. My epic hug with Frolf on the stage. Hopefully pictures were taken of this glorious exchange. Thanks to everyone who pitched in to the Gats fund and thanks to everyone for saying hi or helping or buying me spotted cows. Hankthetank hooked me up with a cord so we were good to go! This year I got to hang out catch up with everyone a lot more which was refreshing: Diaz, Knobbe, All Vogts, Ruble, ND Boys, Coconuts, Sega (Zach Morris), Gats, Bruddog, Manyo, Ryan & Kevin C, Hank, Bailey, #ESO, Child of Destiny, Andy B., Jim Socks, Woodshed, GRIPSMOKE!, Toolie, Odell, Noonan, TecmoBo, Joe M., Joel, Holzbros + Holzwomens, SirTed, Disasta, Daboys, Flo, Beef Juice, Mort & Lou + everyone else! It is pretty fun hanging out with 50 of your closest Tecmo friends. (I'll add more names when my TecmoAids wears off.) Chet + Josh + Crew are awesome and put so much effort into all of this. Thanks for having me. Thanks for the wallet. Thanks for being awesome. ALSO - 1.) From here on out, all tournaments streamed by me will not start until the round of 64. Sooo much easier, and I get to hang out. 2.) I locally recorded the entire stream. I am trying to figure out a way to rebroadcast it on Twitch. Stay tuned. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Finally, I'd like to address all of the passive aggressive, condescending dickholes who sent me emails, tweets, twitter DMs, T-Borg PMs or FB messages: I can't help venue issues. I feel like I deserve a little more grace than what you think you are "owed" as a forum member. You guys are seriously the worst. I want you to know that I do this in spite of you and that you all have paved the way to pure a-hole status. I am handing out a mountain of Twitch bans here soon. Suck on that.

  49. Due to the aforementioned 1) 2) and 3), it is with great happiness and sorrow that I announce I may not be attending this year. My little boy is expected March 17th (God watch over his soul if he is born on Saint Patricks Day). The wife has suggested (translation = ordered) I remain home in case something would happen, which I agree. I guess someone else will just have to fall on there ass with beer in hand after a complete stranger pulls a chair out from underneath him. It's not to hard to figure out.

  50. I still can't believe the Cincy drones kicked that fumble out of bounds. Could have been a different game. Yeah, the breaks didn't go my way in our first matchup. But as I told Reg, he had them coming from last year. Josh and I were both happy for him, and we weren't alone. Perseverance is always admirable. You're very welcome, Matt. Every time we think about shutting it down, I just think about all the fun that would be lost. It truly is Christmas for Tecmoers.
