  3. This question is directed at the coding gurus (or anyone who might have information about the subject): What do we know about how the CPU selects offensive and defensive plays? Are these bytes editable to streamline the logic to which the CPU selects offensive / defensive plays? Is it based purely on what offensive / defensive pattern the player selects, or is it situational? [Example] I've been scanning over my knowledge base and trying to pinpoint any future edits I'm still interested to make for Tecmo Super Coach. This is the last 'topic of interest' that I know nothing about, and could go a long way into making playing the computer more interesting / challenging. Bueno for any education provided.

  6. I got the trophies. I got prizes. I got TVs. I got some beef jerky. I just gotta survive an intense day of work and then I'm Portland bound. The only way I could be more excited is if it was TWO days of Tecmo competition, but we are gonna stuff so much hotness in this one day, Sunday will be needed for emotional and physical recovery. Just one last reminder: DO NOT BE LATE. We are setting up at 10 so we can begin partying at 11, and the format has been tweaked so that we can just get to running right away, no matter how many people are there. I'm not gonna be handing out special byes to people who text me they are on the way.... and don't forget to think about some Tecmo NBA matchups! There is no cash prize for cutting down the 8 bit nets, but an ill trophy awaits the winner. If I get in early enough tonight, I might could check out some Ground Kontrol or other downtown Portland shenanigans. Holla.

  8. 2 days twats. I can't wait to seek revenge on TBK. I look forward to our sidebet Bears/Cards matchup for a beer. I also seek revenge on DT who has beaten me in back to back tourneys. I also hope this is the tourney where MAD MAX MANYO or whatever the F he is calling himself these days finally get to lock joy sticks, 2 button controllers or whatever sexual innuendo that needs providing to make this rant work. See you all saturday!

  9. Understandably confusing as it has subtlety changed over the years but at this tourney: 1) Coin flip winner will determine matchup 2) Coin flip loser chooses team or controller 3) Coin flip winner chooses other thing

  10. Compared my notes vs jstouts original work on this. COM DEF Timeout logic: 1. Not 4th qtr or OT= don't take timeout 2. Tied or leading = don't take timeout 3. More than 3 minutes left = don't take timeout 4th or OT and COM is trailing 1. 2-3 minutes left = 75% chance of timeout 2. < 2min left = 93% chance of timeout COM DEF Playcall logic: 1. Not 3rd or 4th Down = completely random play call 3rd or 4th down 1. yards to go <3 = 80% run, 20% pass 2. yards to go between 3-7 = random play call 3. yards to go >7 = 80% pass, 20% run Onside Kick Logic: 1. Not 4th Qtr or OT = do normal kick 2. 4th qtr < 2min and trailing = do onsides 3. >=2 min left in OT = do normal kick 4. <2 min left = 75% chance of onsides

  18. I didn't notice this project until just now (browsing through the entire message thread) - this looks amazing. I'm predominantly an NES TSB guy first (and if I play any SNES TSB at all, it's only been TSB II Special Edition). But this is something that I would make room in my starting rotation for...

  20. Hi all, I put together a pretty amateurish tsb tourney annually, the night before the SB. We're talking default playbooks here. Lots of close friends. Otherwise, we use Madison rules. We've all been around the game forever, but are casual enthusiasts Vs all of your impressive mastery of tsb. Regardless, I want to win! If anyone in the area is interested in a meet-up for the sake of 'training' me, let me know. I got a cool $50 bill for anyone interested. Thanks!

  23. I don't care what, when, or the reason behind why he's good...Herschel plays well for me. Johnson plays exceptional for me. I guess the Cardinals place kicker had an affair with the nose tackle, and Lonnie Youngs' really the baby's daddy of Tim McDonalds' kid.........Who really gives a f*%k why there good. All the other details are dork sh!t...All that matters is that you know your opponent, (how their offense & defense operates)...and show up when it matters on the field.

  26. But, he can return kicks and punts WELL. Most RBs can't. Can we get this guy into our HSTL draft. Please! We need this kind of insight! Boud's Ironhead reference is winning this round for the record.

  27. I have a feeling it won't slow him down much....

  28. I don't. He can return kicks and punts WELL. most RB's can't. Plus, he's very dangerous in the open field after a catch. He's in my top 10 because he's very versitile. You don't think this is true, try returning a kick with Bo.

  35. ........oh, and the fact that he can catch, return punts, kicks, play tight end, tailback, fullback, & wide receiver exceptionally well??? Yeah.....you forgot to mention that. That's what sets him apart from everybody else...not the skin tone. And another thing...I really don't care if you agree with me or not.

  36. Well you havn't used him.......or you just don't know how. Option 2 is what I'm guessing.

  38. Sobhi's right, I think. If you're terrible, muck it up. You're not stopping an elite player with an elite team. And terrible players don't know how to bomb well enough such that they can take advantage of, for instance, the Joe to Jerry garbage. Pick two terrible teams and let them do what they do best--lose games.

  39. Gave this some thought the other day when Keirre mentioned it and I'm not sure group play is truly "noise." If an inferior player called the matchup, most on here seem to think that the superior player would choose Hou and defeat the Giants. By contrast, if a superior player called the matchup (unlikely since it's top tier), the inferior guy might call either team, but he'd likely lose either way. If the group play results are somehow skewing the results in one team's favor, then, it'd probably be in Hou's favor. In a more general sense, why knock out all Hou-Gia games that don't involve elite players? Because only matchups b/w elite guys can truly determine which team is performing better? Not sure I agree with that proposition, but perhaps you guys are right.

  43. he didn't stop Johnny J, I was running all over him. he just ended up scoring more points than me. but he was using different LBs based on my formation and I found out that he knows how to blow up a couple of my runs to basically make them unusuable for me. (I didn't know WHO Mort was at that time - and he ended up winning the whole tournament that day! He is a great Tecmo player and a really nice guy) I know ran for over 100 with Johnny J, probably like 120 yds, can't remember. Mort scored a FG at the end of the half thanks to an ARROW-TRICK pass to Irvin up top (totally lost my jock strap). I ended up losing by that FG. I did run for 131 yds with MOSI TATUPU (against IND) that day, in round of 32. Then I ran for like 150+ (I think it was maybe 200+) with Barry vs KC in sweet 16, holding OKOYE to less than 10 yds.

  44. I'm not a believer in HOU. I pulled a HOU v BUF back in Chicago '10 against MORT in round of 32. I was honestly hoping Mort would take HOU. 1st two drives: Kelso picks off Moon on my side of the field White fumbles inside 10. Mort grinded (and I mean grinded) with Thermal all day. I made a run in the 2nd half but could never make up those turnovers. I just don't trust the pass as much anymore. I'll take a team that can run the ball any day. --- same thing knee-deep in '11 Neberaska tourney, feeling good, vs Chet Holzy. I called MIA v DET, hoping dude would take MIA. nope. again...GRIND. those MIA safeties are badass, and I kept Barry in check (but could never quite stop him) and I kept all kinds of bullshit alive with Marino tossing sweet Garbage, but I believe I ended up losing 28-21 or something like that. Might have been by a FG. --- I made it to the "Elite 8", 2010 Madison He Went to Jerry tourney, I was ripping Everybody apart that day. But, as the night went on - Coffee was wearing off and they put me on this old-school PoS faded-ass projector big-screen (after having played on little-ass 15-inchers all day). Mort's brother is there with their "notebook" talking all kinds of strategy. With my head totally up my ass, I call PHX v DAL. Believe it or not, I only lost that by a damn FG. I grinded Johnny Johnson pretty good. But Mort was on FIRE that day and could do no wrong. ---- The thing about these tournaments for me is: you gotta have physical and mental STAMINA and keep your FOCUS and INTENSITY. As the day wears on, it's tough to keep the mojo going. One bad matchup call and it's all over. (at least the single-elimination tourneys)

  45. I think people make the mistake of picking harris on every play. Do you really need to pick a fast defender vs a 38 or 31 MS back. I don't think you do. Depending on formation, you can use one of the safeties and defend the run better regardless of using a 25 RS guy or not.

  46. For the most part, the offensive and defensive play calling is totally random but there are a few situational logic calls like right near the goal line it will call run more than pass. There is a lot of logic on whether to kick a field goal, punt, or go for it. I attached all the relevent game code (it is quite long and goes every which way). I'm quite sure code can be written to adjust the computer to whatever you wanted. On a side note, I wrote some defensive code that works in the same way as TSB Ultra that actually is on the CIFL rom. *Code now has notes to help follow along tsb_play_call.zip
