    Schedule Generation formula

This gem was posted on reddit under /r/nfl over the holidays by a user named lookoutbeloww. Thought I'd stick it here for future consideration and maybe eventually putting it into code myself. edit: after thinking some this isn't really a hack per se yet. If it needs to be moved somewhere else let me know. Some NFL fans might not realize it, but your team's 2014/15 schedule is already predetermined. The NFL does its scheduling based off a yearly divisional cycle and divisional ranking from the previous season. Every year your team plays 6 divisional games against the other teams in your division, so that's 6 of the 16 games. Also, each year your team's division plays all 4 teams from one AFC division and all 4 teams from one NFC division. This is based off of a yearly cycle. Example: the AFC East played the AFC South in 2012, and played the AFC North in 2013, so the AFC East will play the AFC West in 2014. The AFC East also played the NFC East in 2011, played the NFC West in 2012, and played the NFC South in 2013, so the AFC East will play the NFC North in 2014. So that's 8 more predetermined games + the 6 divisional games = 14 games so far. The last 2 games your team will play are based off of what place your team finished in their division and which conference your team is in. Example: the New England Patriots finished in 1st place of the AFC East so they will have to play the 1st place team of the AFC North (Bengals) and the 1st place team of the AFC South (Colts). In conclusion, your team will play 6 divisional games, 4 AFC opponents from one division, 4 NFC opponents from one division, and 2 games versus teams from your same conference that finished in the same place as your team in their respected division. NOTE: If the NFL switches to an 18 game schedule than disregard everything. AFC EAST The AFC East will play 6 division games against the teams amongst their division (3 home, 3 away). The AFC East will also play the 4 teams of NFC North (2 home, 2 away – Packers, Bears, Lions, Vikings), and the 4 teams from AFC West (2 home, 2 away – Broncos, Chiefs, Chargers, Raiders) in the 2014/2015 season. The AFC East will also have to play 1 team from the AFC North and 1 team from the AFC South based off corresponding rankings in their divisions (1 home, 1 away). Example: New England finished in 1st place of the AFC East so they will have to play the 1st place team of the AFC North (Bengals) and the 1st place team of the AFC South (Colts). Here’s a table guide: AFC EAST AFC NORTH AFC SOUTH 1. New England Patroits 1. Cincinnati Bengals 1. Indianapolis Colts 2. New York Jets 2. Pittsburgh Steelers 2. Tennessee Titans 3. Miami Dolphins 3. Baltimore Ravens 3. Jacksonville Jaguars 4. Buffalo Bills 4. Cleveland Browns 4. The AFC North will also have to play 1 team from the AFC East and 1 team from the AFC West based off corresponding rankings in their divisions (1 home, 1 away). Example: Pittsburgh finished in 2nd place of the AFC North so they will have to play the2nd place team of the AFC East (Jets) and the 2nd place team of the AFC West (Chiefs). The AFC South will also have to play 1 team from the AFC East and 1 team from the AFC West based off corresponding rankings in their divisions (1 home, 1 away). 4. Tool updated again [new version = 1.0.0.3] (due to some extra time I had this holiday season) I've kept up version '0.91 Beta' because that is probably the best tested version. File is located in first post in this topic. http://tecmobowl.org/topic/11106-tsb-editor-tsbtool-supreme-season-generator/ 1. Added Schedule GUI 2. Added support for CXROM 1.11 (Except formations) 3. Added a few hacks from: http://tecmobowl.org/topic/58074-2013-hack-year-in-review/. 4. Added a Menu item under 'HACKS' that will check all the 'SET' commands looking for locations that were set more than once (so you can see if the hacks conflict with one another). ================================================================================ Double click on schedule to bring up scheduler gui. CXROM 1.11 Rom should not really be used, but I added support for it to make the program more compatible with it's java (android) counterpart. Added a menu item that will check every 'SET' command loaded into the editor to ensure that you're not setting the same location multiple times (it will however ignore warning you against identical lines because you're setting them to exactly the same value and hence there isn't a conflict). Also, for SET commands like: >>>> SET(0x2224B, {28TeamNES PromptUser:Msg="Enter desired quarter length":int(1-15)} ) The line will only apply to a 28 Team ROM, it will not be applied to a SNES or 32 team ROM.

    2014 MvG Tecmo Project?

is this COM vs COM or just background auto-sim? I prefer COM v COM....however, I have noticed something about that.... the same scenario ALWAYS plays out (after a game is started), even in a COM v COM game. unless you press B or something at the start or at halftime. try it, start a COM v COM game and at the "two helmets" screen, SAVE a state. don't press B...watch the game. go back to the save spot...watch same game over and over. (this could be a emulator thing having to do with random numbers being loaded up, don't know. but I don't think it's possible to test it on an actual console.) I guess the point of what I'm trying to say is that no matter what the outcome will be of a COM v COM game, you're not actually "Watching a live game"! every single move and turnover and play is already determined.

    Schedule Generation formula

Great read! /\ I have to agree with this assumption. Based off the number of people I hear crying about strength of schedule every year, like it's some conspiracy, many don't seem to have any idea how scheduling works. 14 of every team's 16 games are actually predetermined YEARS in advance (until the NFL changes the format or goes to 18 games) based on divisional rivalries and rotating AFC/NFC division matchups. The 2 'flex' games, as stated in your article, being the 2 teams that finish in the same position in their respective division as said team, of the other divisions in your conference that are not in your rotation....(if that makes any sense). (i.e. The AFC East will play the AFC West next season....so the Pats will play their 2 'flex' games against the 1st place teams from the AFC North/South, Bengals/Colts....while the Bills will play the LAST place teams from the AFC North/South, Browns/Texans). The team that finishes first in their division the previous year actually has the toughest schedule (in theory) since the 2 'flex' games are against "better" opponents (based on previous year's records which we all know means ZIP....see: Falcons/Texans). Fun Fact: The team with the TOUGHEST strength of schedule going into this year was the Carolina Panthers, who finished 2nd overall in the NFC. One of the reasons it was perceived to be so tough was due to Atlanta going 13-3 the previous year. In long-winded conclusion: Preseason strength of schedule means squat and I always shake my head when people put any stock into it or call conspiracy. It's cool to know how the rotation works, though. And I like the idea of somehow being able to automate the Tecmo schedule based on some sort of formula that would be way over my head.

  8. To sweeten the pot for Munoz, offer to name the tournament "Dark Side of the Munoz" in his honor.

  10. Before we ban Houston, as some have imprudently suggested, it might be worth noting that the Giants are 8-5 lifetime against Hou in the tourney. That obviously doesn't tell the whole story, but the online community has always overrated Hou. Hou is also 7-14 against SF, 2-3 v. KC, just 5-4 v. Phi, and 15-8 against Buf. Oh yeah, and these records were generated while Givins was able to carry the football. Hardly ban-worthy.
