Los Angeles Rams HSTL S42 Recaps

WEEK 3 vs PHI

Rams open the game up with the first of one of BO's Tds. Philly is stopped on downs on their opener, which is converted to BO TD #2. Eagles rebound on 2nd drive and cash it in on a TD to Mularkey, Rypien just sneaking it over Lionel...though what's this? SCOTT DAVIS comes in from LB1 position, catches Leahy napping and blocks the XP! Rams right back at it, this time with a Kreigault! connection, Bo's man in the vicinity, but "unlocked" and essentially out of the play. 21-6 at the halftime.

Eagles would score on a bomb JJ to Ricky Sanders and a run by BHump (who would end the game in EXC), and BO would run one more in, but with the XP block earlier, the RAMS were able to play it relaxed and waste a lot of clock without real fear of a loss.

RAMS even at 1-1 - goal for next game - over 50% for Krieg, who has been off target a lot early.

Week 4 vs ATL

Rams kick to Atlanta to open. Falcs held to 4th down deep in their own territory but go for it anyway. Pass to Novacek broken up, turnover. BO quickly converts. 7-0 RAMS

Falcons put together a nice dip and doink drive, capped off by an Ottis scamper. RAMS still have the upper hand with the earlier stop on downs, but this is quickly erased as Krieg throws his first pick for the year to perennial INT threat, Walls. Falcons score on a brutal CC/popcorn combo reception to (31 rec?) Ottis. RAMS even it before half on a Kreigault! strike.

Second half is a back and forth march up and down the field for both teams. BO puts two more in the EZ, while Novacek scores on a standing CC (ouch) and excellent condition Collins burns one past Lionel in the 4th. That one tied at 28. About a minute left for the RAMS. A short run, followed by a short pass leaves about 15 on the clock. RAMS thinking FG all the way with Morten waiting in the wings. Krieg hits Gault in stride as Prime's defender dives short. From 50 out, there's a chance Gault makes it all the way, but I wasn't taking that chance. With one tick, Willie steps out, setting up a 54 yarder, which Morten splits the uprights with. Phew. Such a relief to not blow it.

RAMS to 2-1 and loving the games so far - not one fumble lost either way in 3 games.

To summarize since 2-1, the Rams had some really tight losses to IND (JP), NO (nos) and NYG (dolo), losing by just 3 to the 2 former and 7 by the latter.

The D stepped up against WAS (yeti) for the biggest win of the season (28-10), and also against DET (lions) with a 21-7 victory. D against NE (toolie) was tight, but Jerry Rice busted it wide open anyway - fortunately the Rams had their O mojo working as well (Gault for instance would have a standing CC) in a convincing 31-17 win.

LA would also knock off ATL for the second time, though the QB play on both sides was pitiful. Ken OBrien overthrew a few sure TDs in the Falcs last sequence, and Krieg missed Gault with (literally!) no one within 50 yards in the first half. Oioioio. Rams nailed it down at 24-14

So, at 6-4, the upcoming forecast is this - big division games against Rockman (x2) and Nos (x1), a matchup with the AFC East in BUF (Hoff) and NYJ (Hock), and what Coach Drake has flagged as a must win against GB (Casualt). The goal has been set at 10-6, though anything less than 9-7 will not be tolerated in LA. The playoff drought for Coach Drake has been too long and with 6 wins, the sweet draft pick train is already leaving the station...so pushing all in.

The next 4 games saw the Rams hold off the 49ers in an ugly injury filled game (John Taylor, Blair Thomas and Bo Jackson all dead in first half) 24-21...then a crazy roller coaster of a game against NO, which saw Jackson fumble at midfield in the 4th quarter in a tie game, which led to a NO FG attempt, which was blocked, which sent it OT - Rams get the kick, but get pinned deep, and Krieg gets safetied on a picked play to end it at 23-21. Craziness. An even matched game against the Jets won on the last second on a 69 yard FG by Morten Anderson, splitting the uprights - 24-21. Finally, the Rams cruised against GB 38-21, despite Moon to Flipper lighting it up pretty good.

At 9-5, BUF (hoff) and  SF (darth) remain. Both games might be needed to win the div - a split here should give LA a good shot at playoffs. Dropping the last two might end up in a wild card long shot, but I don't want to be taking that chance.
