NOW USING 100% MADISON RULES!!!

We will be using a modified version of the Madison rules... http://tecmomadison.com/rules/

The major difference are rules 1 and 2 from Madison:

1. There will be two coin tosses before the game starts. Winner of the first toss can either pick their team, or pick their preferred controller, 1 or 2. The second toss will determine the reminder of the two (controller or team) that was not selected in the first toss. The "team" toss loser can pick any remaining team. The "controller toss" loser has to use the controller not selected by the "controller toss" winner. We will go over this again before the tourney starts.
If the "team" toss winner picks the team that the opponent really wanted, "handicapping deals" are allowed. For instance, if I wanted BUF, but the toss winner picked BUF, I can offer points to the opponent to get their team. If agreed upon, they give up BUF and select another team where they will be spotted the points agreed upon. *The tournament organizers have to be made aware of the deal before the game starts.
2: The are no limits on matchups. If two people play each other multiple times, the same teams can be used, if the toss and participants decide so.

Other rules are pretty much spot on.

Please let us know if there are questions or concerns.

There will be a prize for first, second and losers bracket winner.

I'd rather have controller 1 than SF.

Of the six tournamanets we've had, I think a SF controllers team has won once. -Maybe twice. I prefer HOU. Others prefer the The Giants, etc.

I feel ya, guys. This format was voted upon and accepted. -At least for this time around. We'll consider adopting Madison rules 100% next time around.

NOW USING 100% MADISON RULES!!!

I hate the Niners. I guess my response was biased. ;)

I won't be coming to Madison this time, but maybe next time? -Then, I'll take you up on the offer. 💪🏼

NOW USING 100% MADISON RULES!!!

I think there may be some that offer points to get the Niners (as my rules state), but we'll see how it works out. We like to gamble and this may play into it even more.

Ahh! I would have definitely come down for this, but I booked my vacation for the same weekend.  Is this at someone's house or a public venue?  I'll pass the word along!

We're a week away!

Aren't there any contenders in this group, local to the Philly area, that want to join in the fun? -Let's see if you're as good as you think you are!

Get in touch with me and let me know if you're interested. If nothing else, it'll be a fun, Nintendo filled Saturday night.

A tourney so close to home sounds fun, but the format sounds awful.

Playing niners games all day sounds like a skilless mess.

I have no issues with deviating from madison rules or house rules or whatever, but playing gamrs with just the best 3 teams all day doesnt sound like a good time.

NOW USING 100% MADISON RULES!!!

TecSpectre, I can guarantee you less than half the participants will use the Niners. I know most, if not all, of the guys signed up this time around. There'll be Raiders, Oilers, Eagles, Bills and Dolphins. -Maybe even others.

As mentioned prior, we will vote on using 100% Madison rules for next year.

You should come out and go over the Madison team selection, etc. rules so everyone understands. Then, we'll be more likely to get some votes to go that way next year. -I could use all the support I can get in this department.

Either way, it'll still be a good time.

Let me know; we'd love to have you join us.

-Jeff

@joeygats   I've never used Discord, but I did try. It says I need your four digit tag....?

Either way, it's a house tourney in Langhorne. The address is ----. Langhorne, PA 19047.

We'd be honored to have you at our tournament.

Please let me know if we should expect you.

Thanks,

So, did you change the payout and format after the tournament started? @Hirsch

No.

An adjustment was made as we started due to a no-show. This took the payouts from 100-60-20 to 90-50-20, for winner, runner-up, and losers bracket winner respectively.

The format was not changed. Originally, we were expecting 9 guys, but due to the no-show, I rearranged one first round match-up instead of on random person having a bye.

There was a little confusion on how the brackets were played after half of the players were eliminated from the primary prize money. -After half of the players had two losses, we split them off into a losers bracket. We then started play in the winners and losers brackets separately, with a fresh slate, as I planned from the start. So, it was double-elim again, once you were assigned to a winners or loser bracket. Of course the winner of the losers bracket only received $20, where the winner and runner-up in the winners bracket received $90 and $50, respectively.

Im not really sure why I'm explaining myself here, was there a complaint that wasn't brought to my attention? -I'm hoping not, but would like to address it if there was.

Thanks,

Jeff.

I did complain bout the pay out cause I thought it was gonna be around 140 for winner. but no one actually said anything official.. but changing pay out cause of a no show is understandable.  far as splitting the bracket and refreshing, that was definitely a little frustrating .. honestly I was just upset over that $42 dollar toll... that ruined my day.  I mean its a house tourney and I really never asked any questions and only assumed how things were gonna be..    my fault and ill be sure to clarify the rules of the tourney and payouts beforehand next time.. definitely meant a lot of cool people there and hopefully some of them decide to play online

When I was at the Detroit Kumite tournament last weekend, a number of players from the Cleveland area who I had never met before attended as well and we all had a great time!  Many of these guys already get together a few times a year to play casual Tecmo Super Bowl at various venues.     I collected emails and some cell phone numbers for players that wanted to provide one.  This post is to see who would be interested in getting together potentially quarterly to play Tecmo Super Bowl and perhaps consider doing a Fantasy Football League in the fall for anyone who enjoys both Tecmo and Fantasy Football and lives in or near Northeast Ohio.   If this is something that interests you, please message me and provide your email address and cell phone number, as I will be creating a text distribution group in addition to the email distribution list once we finalize the initial details.  If you could also let me know ideas for places to meet, how many systems, cartridges, controllers and TVs you would be willing to share with the group, that would also be helpful.   The idea is to simply get a group of great guys together semi regularly who enjoy both Tecmo Super Bowl and NFL football.   Thanks in advance for your consideration.  More to follow after I collect everyone's thoughts and responses.

      Rules
      ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Game play rules ( See each Round Description in the Six pack )
      1. Except Round 4. No lurching with an  D.L. (defensive lineman) lurch is defined as trying to dive tackle or blitz the QB at the snap on a drop back pass or trying to use the same effect to break up a running play. Bumping the tackle is fine (on a up or down or backwards direction). Any other form of DL use is legal. The below video link shows what is illegal.
      2. W.R. or T.E.’s Cannot have run plays in playbook(except 4 reverse). However you may substitute an w.r./t.e. at rb2 slot as long they don't have a running play.players like Givins and Sanders are considered wr's.
      3. Playbook changes/lineup editing each pregame...
4.“One Match-up Once” Rule: The coin-flip winner can only select a particular matchup once throughout the entire tournament. For instance, if Player A wins the toss and selects Packers-Browns, Player A cannot call that exact match-up for the rest of the tournament. Player B, however, is free to select that match-up later in the tournament. SEE EACH ROUND FOR TEAM SELECTION IN THE FORMAT.
      5. TIES: In order to speed things up in Rounds 1 thru 6 if game ends tied it will be a tie in order to save time. HOWEVER IN Single elimination round NO GAME CAN END IN A TIE. IF A game is tied when regulation concludes, competitors will proceed to OT. All OT's will be 5-minute sudden death periods. If nobody scores in the first OT, the second OT will be only the first quarter in a new game. If the game goes to an 2nd O.T. you will alternate who gets the ball first (in the second o.t.). This process will be repeated until a winner emerges. So that one competitor does not start with the ball in every OT period, the receiving team (i.e. team that gets the ball first) shall alternate beginning with the second OT period.

6.. Tournament Issues All issues will be settled by the tournament crew. Headed by Louis Buennagel, Francis Buennagel . (Others will be designated by gameday as seconds for when we are playing.) Report controller issues and any other issues AS SOON AS IT HAPPENS. We will use the warm-up session to test all controllers and equipment so hopefully everything works fine. Game freeze will be settled by playing out part or all of the game depending on circumstance... unless you cause a reset by your physical actions. The final decision is up to the tournament directors or those designated by the directors. All equipment loaned for the tourney will be tracked. You may use your own controller if it is standard but do not move the other controller from that station. Respect all equipment as if it was yours. Excessive misbehavior will result in your elimination from the tourney and all future events. We also will record a D.q. win on case by case situation ( if it happens early in the game it will be recorded as a 14 to 0 d.q. win)
      7. There MAY be 1 live streams on Twitch, twitch.tv/mort1237...Update we need someone to help us stream games!!!
      8. GAMBLING: There's been couple guys who made some side bets last year on H2H pickup games. Money on the wood to make the bet all good. No drama. make your rules clear before the game starts. Max wager is $20. No betting on your own tournament games your playing in. You may wager on live games that your not playing in either (IE MYnameisFlo).
      9. We have the right to change the format if needed.
1o. Please mark and label all your equipment. So it isn't lost.
      11. A forfeit win   will be marked as  A14 to 0 win. Obviously if someone gives up when your up 28 to o then it will be counted as 28+ for margin of victory. The maximum differential of victory for any game is 28pts. IF  you win 35 to 3 it will marked as a 28 pt win for your differential.                        ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      MORE DETAILS

We are STARTING at 11 am. Please don't be late. Show up EARLIER than 11, so we can do last second adjustments, explain the rules, and get to playing right away.

Entry Fee: $30. Payouts: $60 to the top newcomer. 3rd place gets their money back. $60 for 2nd place. Champ takes home the rest. Loser's bracket champion will once again have their choice of two prizes with the Loser's bracket runner-up getting the other.

      FORMAT

Standard Madison Rules for all matchups. You may only call a certain matchup ONCE the entire day.

There will be 5 rounds pitting two random participants vs each other. Names will be drawn out of a hat and pitted against each other. At the conclusion of 5 rounds, the 8 competitors with the best winning percentage will be put into a double-elimination bracket to decide the Portland Tecmo Champion.

ALL GAMES in round 3 will be Dallas vs Phoenix: The JOHNNY FREAKIN JOHNSON round.

The 1st tiebreaker will be opponent's winning percentage, the 2nd tiebreaker will be Tecmo NBA winning percentage and the 3rd tiebreaker will be combined Tecmo NBA and TSB score differential. (Don't worry if you can't hoop, The 2nd and 3rd tiebreak shouldn't be a factor, really)

Cash prizes will be given out to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, and the Top Newcomer.

The remaining competitors will be seeded into the loser's bracket to duke it out for their choice of a consolation prize.

If you were in Seattle this September, it will be very similar in structure to that only this time-

      1) If you are late, you take an L. Be there at 11 am or risk forfeit. Exceptions will be made if we took a while to get organized or there is a shortage of TVs and there were delays otherwise, but lets everyone try to be there and ready to play by 11 am!

      2) Everyone will get at least 6 games. Last time a certain amount of losses booted you, but this time, you can keep rollin and fight for improved seeding.

And also, there will be some action on the side-

A March Madness style single elimination Tecmo NBA tournament. Seeded randomly, this will only be for a trophy and bragging rights.

Pick and rolls will be executed. Facials will be administered. Roundball will be run, but the focus will be on Tecmo Super Bowl, cause thats whats up.

      SEE YOU SATURDAY

      @PortlandTecmo
    • By buck
This is a virgin 28-team NES TSB ROM with one big change -

all DEFENSIVE PLAYS have been changed to the respective "BLITZ" for every play.  So, when you play it, no matter what, the defense comes at you like they picked your play.  In addition, the OFFENSIVE PLAYS were changed to use the actual play that it would run when the defense picks the offenses play, like Pass 1 Pro T Screen for instance.

I went in and copied/pasted the "blitz" play for every play, so that every pick is a successful play-pick.  At the bottom of this post is a screenshot of the defensive bytes that were changed to the common blitz byte for every play variation.

In this picture, you can see that the RUNS use a Blitz Byte of 5B, 53, 57, 5F, 8F, or 99.    Pass play Blitz Bytes are 5F, BB, DA, and 22...that's right, there are ONLY 4 variations to a Pass-Play blitz!
Also, in this picture, The top-left starts with the 8 variations of Run Slot 1, Play 1.  It continues (left to right, top to bottom), 8 plays for each slot, 8 variations of each play, down to the very last Pass Slot 4, Play 8.
Now, changing the defense is NOT ENOUGH - because the offense has 8 possible variations for any given play - so I had to go in and change all of the offensive plays to run the variation that it uses when the defense picks the offenses respective play (sorry, no picture for this).

This ROM is made for the sole purpose of practicing responses to getting your play called!  (Note - this is mostly useful for practicing getting your Pass Play called.
      Work on those timed taps!

Hey all. Im working on my yearly TFO Rom and last season I started to give away the prize of placing text on the Tecmo Blimp that appears at halftime. So since I have my notes and couldn't find this on the boards I wanted to post it for others... and so I won't lose it next season when I do this all again

So I like to think of the Tecmo Blimp as having 2 Lines of 10 "Spots". These spots are filled in with 8x8 pixel images. There are 16 available characters to use in these spots (not counting spaces). You would need to go in and EDIT these with your own images/letters/characters to appear on the blimp and one could have MORE spots by doing some edits on their own but I stick with the 16 as I haven't had an issue with it.

I know there is more "real estate" on the blimp that could be used but since it shares a pallet with the background clouds I just stick with the two 10 character lines.
