Saving game in retro pi

Hey I'm about to set up my retro pi and I'm really looking forward to playing tecmo super bowl for the first time in about 20 years. I'm trying to remember how saving a season works. Does it automatically save your progress in the season when you're done playing for the day, and you can pick up where you left off the next time you play? If so, does this apply to the retro pi as well?

Thanks Dave. So, before I watch that video and ask the retro pi people - just out of curiosity, how does saving work on the regular game? It's been a long time since I've played it. (My brother told me he thinks you may have to just leave the game on in order to finish a season).

@Eagles9

On a regular cartridge your progress is automatically saved after you exit out of the blue screen stats page or any time a game completes in SKP mode.

Holding reset while you power off the Nintendo will make it unlikely that the Save RAM on the cartridge gets erased.
