NFL 2016-17 Season Discussion

715 posts in this topic

7-7 for the week (and no, a tie game between the Cardinals and Seahawks counts as a loss for everybody--especially since nobody ever predicts tie games).  My record improves to 56-49 for the season.  The picks I got right were Green Bay, Cincinnati, Detroit, Kansas City, Oakland, New England, and Denver.  I'm going to have to look over my choices carefully, because the only easy picks (at least on paper) are New England, Seattle, Denver, and Minnesota.  And even then, in the case of the Patriots and Broncos, they're playing against teams that had beaten them earlier this season, while the Vikings' offensive woes were made apparent yesterday.

Gonna go with the Titans to win this week as well.  Rest of the picks later on in the week.  Especially since I will now be able to watch every game (except on Thursday nights, but that's no consequence to me).

Neutral arbitration would solve a lot of the NFL’s issues. If there was a third-party arbitrator — somebody with no skin in the game and no shield to protect — making decisions on fines and suspensions, I think you’d see a greater degree of objectivity. There should be a committee of former players and coaches to sort through on-field actions, and panels of experts for off-field issues.

The real problem with the NFL is the lack of a system of checks and balances.

I'd rather see Antonio Brown Chippendale dance fests & dudes shooting pretend arrows at each other than see one more defender make a "no good" signal. Isn't that a thinly veiled taunt anyway?

2017, another year of a bunch of mid-tier teams.

Minnesota is a fun team to watch, but they're not gonna hold up for the second half of the year. Dallas (can't believe I'm saying this) is in a really good position right now, and they're going to blow it by putting Tony Romo back into the QB position. I will go on record saying I was dead wrong about Dak Prescott. Here's hoping Jerry World hasn't lost all of his faculty and realizes letting a rookie who has shown not only skill but also great maturity for his age, and who has lead the team to an improbable winning season, who represents the future of the Cowboys in the present--shouldn't take a back seat to a brittle, 36 year-old loser. I'm happy for Oakland, but bitch, please. Oakland doesn't know how to win big games. The Patriots doing the typical Patriots thing: winning, which of course I live for.

This season of the NFL might be even more boring than last year, outside of what I've listed above.

Got the Titans down pat.  Gonna go with the Bengals as well.  And whoever has that comment that forces this page to constantly scroll downward, can you please fix it?  It's getting really annoying by this point.

2:53 to go, with 3 timeouts (AND the two-minute warning), and - trailing 7 - you go onside kick, Caldwell?

Biffed it.

Zach Galifitzpatrick must have checked Twitter at halftime & didn't like what he saw. Early 3rd quarter: "Which of Fitzpatrick's 4 completions has been your favorite?"

The product on the field is such garbage this year. I don't see anyone challenging the Pats.

It's interesting that you say that a bunch of mid-tier teams populating the NFL is a bad thing, when the NBA is having the complete opposite problem right now. NBA fans are complaining that there's not enough mid-tier teams, with it being three teams who have a realistic chance of winning the finals, playoff fodder, and crap.

When I was at the Detroit Kumite tournament last weekend, a number of players from the Cleveland area who I had never met before attended as well and we all had a great time!  Many of these guys already get together a few times a year to play casual Tecmo Super Bowl at various venues.     I collected emails and some cell phone numbers for players that wanted to provide one.  This post is to see who would be interested in getting together potentially quarterly to play Tecmo Super Bowl and perhaps consider doing a Fantasy Football League in the fall for anyone who enjoys both Tecmo and Fantasy Football and lives in or near Northeast Ohio.   If this is something that interests you, please message me and provide your email address and cell phone number, as I will be creating a text distribution group in addition to the email distribution list once we finalize the initial details.  If you could also let me know ideas for places to meet, how many systems, cartridges, controllers and TVs you would be willing to share with the group, that would also be helpful.   The idea is to simply get a group of great guys together semi regularly who enjoy both Tecmo Super Bowl and NFL football.   Thanks in advance for your consideration.  More to follow after I collect everyone's thoughts and responses.
