Great Live Performances - Fun Music Project

Recommended Posts

So here's what I'm trying to do -

I want to put together a playlist of a bunch of great LIVE performances. Now, here are my general rules:

I don't want a whole show. Just singles - but instances of more than 1 song from a single concert making the list are ok.

I want there to be something significant about the performance, not just a great recording.

Here are some examples of things I'm looking for.

1. Great Crowd / Participation (maybe they cheer, maybe they sing, etc)

2. Great Vocals (obviously I want the sound to be good, but maybe they sing it even slightly differently than the album. Great.

3. Great Guitar Solos / Instrumentals - We're not limited to rock, but to be honest I've yet to see a rap show that moved me (just my opinion).

Here are some examples of what I've found so far:

cut to 4:05 for the greatness

(love the crowd, the whole time)

ANYWAYS... I could go on and on.

Point is - I know there are some great live vids / tracks out there that I don't know about. Post em! I want to hear em. I want to add them. Even better, tell me why you like them, and why I should too.

Hopefully the spirit of what I'm looking for is clear. Have fun.

Awesome idea Ted!

Here is my entry.  I was fortunate enough to be there!

Fun fact: I saw this band 4 times before I really grew an appreciation for them, several years later.  The live act is phenomenal.  Enjoy!

This whole set really but this one stands out.

This set initially came to my mind, too.  the meat puppets songs, the leadbelly song, and the david bowie song....and then all the sweet nirvana songs.  Classic.

Probably my favorite live show - but hard to pick out a winner, really. Maybe Rocket Queen, I dunno. Incredible show, though.

Socks - I thought of it as well, just couldn't decided which track I wanted.

Odell - I've only seen DMB once, not my favorite band, but it's definitely on the short list of best concerts I've ever been to.  Has to be one of the best places to see a show in the US. (I really want to go to Red Rocks too, though) Check this out.

Time to plan a trip to WA! We'll even schedule a tourney around it :)

This one almost always makes me cry when he pauses, it was Buck's funeral.  I haven't watched it in a long time.

The internet is pretty amazing in that I was able to find footage from the second show I ever attended. This was back in 1997 at the now non-existent CBGB's in NYC. The lead vocalist passed away a few years later. I could not find footage from my first ever show (which was also at CBGB's).

Seen Tool in concert 3 times since the 2001 release of Lateralus and each show is amazing!!  This is a release of the 2006 album 10,000 Days.  Saw them perform it in person (not at this particular show)... true harmony of melodies & hard rock.
