There may have been some confusion as to what game we'll be playing, considering I am giving away a copy of TSB2k13 to the tournament winner! Just to be clear, this will be a tournament for the 1991 NES version of Tecmo Super Bowl!

If you haven't signed up via email already, please be sure to do so: [email protected]. Email should include, NAME, HOMETOWN, PHONE, EMAIL, EQUIPMENT (you can lend, if at all possible).

Please make sure you've read through all of the tourney rules at the official tournament thread: http://tecmobowl.org...anuary-12-2013/ Looking forward to 1/12/13!

Want to hear some Tecmo dedication? My wife is 100% anti video games. She knows that I have wanted to buy a PS3 for some time now. Friday night we went out to eat and to deter me from Detroit and Madison trips, she says "You're going to hate me." I ask "Why?" She responds "I know you have wanted to get a PS3 for a while now, so if you skip your tecmo tournaments, I'll let you buy one. What's it going to be?" I respond without a moments hesitation "tecmo." She seethes and proceeds not to speak to me for the rest of the night. I feel no remorse and even some satisfaction. :)

Awesome!  I would think since you brought home the bacon after Madison she'd soften up a bit.  I do my best to play online after my wife goes to bed, which is mercifully never after 10PM, so that helps.  I still get shredded whenever I go to a tournament, though.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The tournament is less than 36 hours away! How stoked are you!?

We are up to 37 participants for the Tecmo Kumite, which is a great turnout for Detroit's 1st annual event ... and the numbers are still growing! To cater to the growing number of participants, we need to meet the demands of tournament of NES playing stations, and could certainly use any equipment you are able to bring (in addition to what you've already signed up for). This cannot be stressed enough. To have run a smooth and successful tournament, we need a quarter of the NES playing stations to that of participants. Right now we sit just about exactly on that number of playing stations, and are in dire need of whatever you are able to bring to help out the cause! This includes anything from, NES consoles/and necessary cords, controllers, TSB game cartridges, power strips, extension cords, small TVs, etc, etc. We can still play if we are short on equipment, but it will certainly make the tournament go quicker, and smoother.

Thanks again to those who have already signed up to bring equipment. If you are helping out with equipment, please be sure to arrive by 9:30am to help set up shop, so we are ready to kickoff the tournament festivites right around 10:00am! Everyone else, try to arrive a few minutes early to allow time for tournament check-in.

There is meter parking directly outside:

The Old Shillelagh
349 Monroe St.
Detroit, MI

There is also a pay parking lot directly across the street, and from what I know, free parking two blocks east at the Greektown Casino.

Upon arrival at the Old Shillelagh, please head upstairs to the 2nd floor where the tournament will be held, and look for a lovely woman named Megan. Megan is my very beautiful, talented, and extremely helpful wife, who will be collecting your $10 entree fee, and checking you into the tournament. Matchups will be announced shortly after check-in has concluded.

Finally, please make sure to read over the tournament gameplay rules! We likely will not have time to go over them on Saturday morning, so it is very important you read through and understand the gameplay rules thoroughly.

*************** TOURNAMENT RULES

1. Tournament Format – Every player in the tournament will play one game per round. A random draw will determine each player’s opponent for the round. A player is eliminated from the tournament when they have accumulated three losses. The last player remaining will be declared the champion.

2. Byes - If there are an odd number of players at the start of a round, then one player will receive a bye (this will be determined through the random draw). Any player who has previously received N byes will be ineligible for another bye unless all other remaining players have also received N byes.

3. Team Selection: Each game (including who is Player 1 and who is Player 2) will be determined by a random draw at the start of each round. For each game, Player 1 will choose the matchup (i.e. the two teams). Player 2 then selects their preferred team.

4. “One Matchup Once” Rule: Players may only select a particular matchup once throughout the entire tournament. For instance, if Player 1 selects Packers-Browns, this person cannot call that exact matchup for the rest of the tournament. Player 2, however, is free to select that matchup later in the tournament.

5. Customizing Playbooks and Lineup Changes: Customizing playbooks is permissible. You may access your “change” screen (screen where you check player conditions and make substitutions) only twice per half. This helps speed up the games.

6. WR/TE at RB. Playing with a WR or TE at RB is prohibited. A WR or TE is able to play in the RB2 slot, but ONLY a RB can receive direct handoffs or pitches. The only time a WR or TE can run the ball is on a reverse. Outside of this: RB, WR, and TE are interchangeable.

7. Ties: Ties are not permitted in this tournament. If a game ends in a tie after overtime, a new game will begin, and the first player to score in the new game is the winner.

8. Lurching: Lurching is prohibited. If you want to rush with a DL, you must either go outside the offensive tackle or “popcorn” someone on the offensive line. You may not simply go around your blocker and dive. Note that this rule does not apply to LBs.

9. Nintendo Malfunctions: If there is an equipment failure in the first half, games will be replayed from the start. If equipment malfunctions in the 2nd half, only the second half is replayed. In that event, the scores from each half are added together to obtain a final score. If the game was uncompetitive or the equipment malfunctioned due to human error, the tourney organizers reserve the right to declare a winner without replaying any portion of the game.

10. Tournament Disputes: Eric O’Dell and Matt O’Toole are the tournament referees. They will decide all disputes unless one of them is a player in the game. If one or both is a player in the disputed game, Joe Moskwa or Chas Claus will resolve the dispute.

11. Equipment: Tournament competitors are encouraged to bring any and all equipment they are able to, including: NES, TSB cart, controllers, ac adapters, RF or RCA wires, extension cords, power strips, and most importantly small sized televisions. Please keep in mind, we may be in need of said equipment for the duration of the event. ONLY basic NES controllers are welcome, no turbo, etc. If you plan on bringing any equipment, please plan on arriving 30 minutes in advance to help set up. We thank you in advance for anything you are able to assist the tournament with!

12. Entry Fee, and Prizes: Tournament entry fee will be $10 per participant. 1st place will take home a cash prize, a NES cartridge of ODell/Ruble Productions: TSB2K13, along with a Detroit Tecmo tournament trophy! 2nd and 3rd place will earn a cash prize as well. ************

Please email me with any questions you might have!  Can't wait guys! See you Saturday morning!

P.S. If there are any last minute cancellations, that is no problem at all. Just please be sure to let me know ASAP! Thanks!

Tecmodell/toolie I ran a small tourney last week and we used/stole your rules and the only prob/question I have is whats the penalty for lurching? This was a classic lurch getting a sack at critical point in game in which. We just called it a free play... cheater could'nt touch controller the next play. And he got a few arm punches just because. What say you?

A "side quest" so to speak if people are interested. Regulator will be bringing extra cash in case anyone want to engage in some games on the side for money.

At one of the Cleveland tournaments I attended some guy was ranting about playing for $1000.  He didn't play very well in the tournament, but he was highly volatile and it wouldn't have been worth the effort.  Probably wouldn't have paid up, or worse, gotten violent.
