Actually buck king diamond's vocal style is known as falsetto. Hail the king!

from wikipedia:

A falsetto voice is a special way of speaking or singing. If a man tries to imitate a woman’s voice he does it by speaking in a falsetto voice. When a man sings with a falsetto voice it sounds high like a soprano. Actors do this sometimes, e.g. Robin Williams in the film Mrs Doubtfire or Kevin Clash when voicing the character Elmo in Sesame Street and Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees, with his R&B falsetto.

Women can also use falsetto, but when they do there is not as big of a change in sound from their normal voices as there is in men. When women use falsetto the voice sounds lighter or weaker than it does when they speak or sing normally.

It is like stretching the mouth out into a wide smile and saying 'ee', except it is sung.

actually, I could see that King Diamond bit on the modern Sesame Street.

I will obviously be in the extreme minority here, but I'll preface this by saying I like all types of music...Rock, Rap, Alternative, Hip Hop....even some Dance, Techno, Classical & Country.....everything except Jazz. Despise that with a passion. It really depends on the song though. To me, music has to move you and have meaning. I use music to handle stress and/or get the adrenaline going.

Favorite genre is Metal, more specifically Metalcore and some death metal (also a special place in my heart for 80s metal). Bands such as Children of Bodom (hence the screen name), In Flames, Killswitch Engage....and my all time favorite, As I Lay Dying.

This stuff gets me through my commute to and from work, then through the gym no matter how tired I am....and has done so for the past 17 years of my life. I honestly thought I would outgrow it by now and calm it down a bit, but it hasn't happened. God bless my wife for putting up with it.

Yes, another fellow metalhead! I am going to The Summer Slaughter Tour next week and am freaking stoked. I've been on a real Veil of Maya kick lately. You down with them?

Holy crap that is an awesome list right there. I think I'm going be fine hanging out here. I see a lot of Blues right there TecmoNightmare. If you ever get a chance I know it may be hardcore, but find something from Robert Johnson. Hes great...

if you like robert johnson -> more ancient, hardcore, and essential blues - skip james and blind willie mctell...I'd throw charley patton up here, but that is super-duper low-fi.

My preferred sound has become a bit picky over the years and these guys are slightly off my style. I do have a friend who's in a band that plays music very similar to this. I mentioned Veil of Maya to him and he's a huge fan. Even with his band though, the vocals are a bit gargled and there's not enough melody with the riffs...but that's just personal preference.

Enjoy the show! I took a quick look at the bands and was only familiar with a few. I didn't know Cannibal Corpse was still around. I saw them back in the mid 90's in Boston when they opened up for Metallica.

I was really into sonata arctica when I was in college (like '03) - this was my favorite song of theirs. I just rediscovered these guys and they are still pretty good.

don't mind the super amateurish video lol.
